Page move[edit]

I have moved the page because it is standard in British English and the International version of the books, that the abbreviation for mister is Mr (no dot). – AxSkov () 02:35, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

I think this, and other "minor harry potter" character pages should be merged into a central page. Fancruft ahoy! (Note: I'm an HP fan myself) - 69.207.32.242 08:23, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. Ollivander has very few appearances and his article is way too short. He should be merged with the Minor Characters. Lord Opeth 22:08, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Information[edit]

The removal by an annonymous IP user (155.144.251.120) of the following passages may not be valid:

- His name is possibly a fusion of the Greek name "Evander" ("good man") with "olive"; the tree tied in Greek myth to Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Hermes' wand, the caduceus, may have been made of olive wood. Otherwise, it may be a variation of the sound of the words "all" and "wand". - His name is also an anagram of "An Evil Lord".

The reason stated was that this constituted "original research". While that may be true for the first portion I think it is invalid for the anagram. Rowling's Harry Potter works have a strong history of using anagrams to reveal people or objects true intentions: The Mirror of Erised or Thomas Marvolo Riddle for instance. As such "His name is also an anagram of "An Evil Lord"" should probably be included in the article. Before I reinclude it and start a prospective edit war, though, I'd like to debate its addition here. Coricus 11:37, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There have been no comments, so I'm readding the section. Coricus 04:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name of shop[edit]

Is it Ollivanders, Ollivanders' or Ollivander's? Rich Farmbrough, 15:02 23 February 2007 (GMT). (And did he have a brother?) Rich Farmbrough, 15:02 23 February 2007 (GMT).

Ollivanders. No apostrophes at all (don't know if there should be, either). We don't know anything about the family, except that they have been in business since 382 BC. Michaelsanders 19:45, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ollivander->An Evil Lord[edit]

I saw on a forum a loooong time ago that Ollivander is An Evil Lord rearranged. Should this be added? --Forgottenlord 03:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fan speculation. Keep it out unless it actually makes its way into the books or J.K.'s website. Wl219 22:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, somebody put it in regardless. I took it out, since there's no source that it's deliberate. And if it is, it's purely ironic, since he does not turn out to be "an evil lord" in all of the series. In other news, Harry Potter is not a trophy rater, Hermione Granger is not about hearing gnomes err and Dumbledore doesn't breed mould. It's just a silly coincidence, folks, nothing more. 82.95.254.249 23:00, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Allegiance?[edit]

Should it really say that in the infobox that his allegiance is to his store? What does that mean? In what way is he loyal to his store? It just doesn't make sense. Just because some characters show true allegiance (be it to the Order or DA or the Death Eaters) is no reason that every character has to have an allegiance. He's just a wandmaker, that's all,m a simple shopkeeper. Faithlessthewonderboy 08:41, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
