Albany Patch external link[edit]

I added a link to Albany Patch as an external link but it was removed as spam. The "local media" section that was also removed was not my addition and was superfluous given the external link I added, which also included a page link to Patch. As a resident of the city of Albany CA, I can vouch for albany.patch.com as a valuable, well-maintained community resource highly relevant to this city and feel that it should be retained as an external link. This patch site serves precisely the same purpose as the sparsely-populated Albany wikispot site now listed under external links; the only difference is that albany.patch is actually useful. Well, I've actually removed most of the links as unnecessary and/or advertising. City articles should generally contain links to official city sites or school districts. TNXMan 12:48, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose that's consistent, however, I feel it would be appropriate for Wikipedia to have a way to point to hyperlocal community resource for any given city. Such sites may contain ads, but they contribute substantially to the community by providing local news, events, stories of local interest, and pointers to local businesses -- going beyond what could be provided by a city government run website or a city-specific Wikinews feed, and valuable to anyone interested in learning about the goings-on in a particular city. Larger cities might cover this via dedicated articles (e.g. Media in Seattle), but that would be overkill for a small city like Albany, CA. Perhaps something can be done via a category such as Hyperlocal media coverage by State along with State-specific articles that could list resources per city or region. Just an idea. I'd like to add there is an external link to the Chamber of Commerce, and links on the page to other places such as Golden Gate Fields (race track), and other entities that have their own financial stakes. I run a news website that has no subjective bias (though it does allow community members to share there opinions of every stripe). Again -- I don't see why this valuable community resource should be censored by Wiki. EmilieAlbany (talk) 02:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

census 2000 data[edit]

The data reported does not match with the data from the census web site linked from the city's web site ( at http://albanyca.org/index.aspx?page=60): http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFFacts?_event=Search&geo_id=86000US94706&_geoContext=01000US%7C86000US94706&_street=&_county=albany&_cityTown=albany&_state=04000US06&_zip=&_lang=en&_sse=on&ActiveGeoDiv=geoSelect&_useEV=&pctxt=fph&pgsl=860&_submenuId=factsheet_1&ds_name=DEC_2000_SAFF&_ci_nbr=null&qr_name=null%C2%AE=null%3Anull&_keyword=&_industry=

resident: 16,444 (wiki reads 16,447) There may be other discrepancies. wiki also lists the number of families residing in the city. i could not find it in the census data.

Anyway it may be obsolete soon when Census 2010 becomes available next month. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ngufra (talkcontribs) 21:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the data to include the 2010 U.S. Census and the 2005-09 American Community Survey. I included the ACS data because most of the demographic info from 2000 is no longer part of the U.S. Census form.EmilieAlbany (talk) 04:01, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From Albany Patch, Emilie R[edit]

I run Albany Patch. It's Albany's only daily news source. I am a trained journalist and I work full time writing about and documenting what is happening in Albany. How is this not relevant to someone who wants to learn about the city?

It doesn't make sense not to include information about local media. I post 5-10 items a day about what is happening in Albany, from schools and government to photographs and other features, volunteer opportunities, recognition for achievements. It simply makes no sense to have a blackout on this information.

I could post 100 messages on here from community members saying how much the site matters to them, and how much it improves their experience of their city. To dismiss a link to the site as advertising seems short-sighted at best.

I apologize if this is an emotional topic for me, but I live and breathe Albany, and dedicate probably 80 percent of my waking time to reporting on what seems most important and relevant to the community. For this to be repeatedly dismissed strikes me as unfortunate and unnecessary. AlbanyPatch (talk) 09:09, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The bulb[edit]

Wikipedia's article could probably have something about the bulb, not just in Geography heading but also in Demographics (about the homeless living at the bulb.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ngufra (talkcontribs) 19:03, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Daveed Diggs from Albany??[edit]

Was looking over the section that talks about famous people from Albany, and noticed Daveed Diggs (Jefferson from the Broadway musical Hamilton). This was news to me. But, when I go to the Wikipedia page for Diggs, it says he was from Berkeley. What is source to attribute him to Albany?Robertjm (talk) 02:09, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
