This page should be deleted - the song doesn't merit its own page, all important info is included in the Little Earthquakes page. Can a sysop please oblige? --AW

I think it stands out better on its on, but who am I to judge? Tell you what, if you cut all the text from Me & a Gun, and incorporate it into Little Earthquakes or Tori Amos, that will leave nothing but a zero-length article. We could then have a redirect from the song to the album. --Ed Poor

In general, I think very few individual songs merit their own encyclopedia entries. Certainly a few like "Stairway to Heaven" or "Revolution 1", but other than that I think the album level is quite sufficient for most musicians. --LDC

In general, you are right. This one merits at least a REDIRECT to the album. If you follow the links, or do a Google search, you'll see that this is at least 1/4 as meritorious a song as stairway to heaven -- at least for rape/incest survivors. --Ed Poor
Fact is, though, there's just not enough to say about it to merit a whole page. It's not been interestingly rewritten, performed on any particularly momentous occasions, subject of massive controversy, covered by thousands of other people, etc. It just makes for a dry entry composed of stuff that's duplicated on the Tori page and on the Little Earthquakes page. A Wiki search for Me and a Gun without it here would turn up those pages high on the hit list anyway, and this page could redirect to Little Earthquakes, so I don't see a problem with removing it. --AW

Okay, I'm convinced, so you and LDC make it 2 to 1. Why don't you go ahead and incorporate all the text from this article into either Tori Amos or Little Earthquakes; then, delete all the text from this article. You or I can then place an entry on the Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion page (reason: no text left in article). --Ed Poor

Best leave a redirect behind (Google, etc, yada yada yada) -- Tarquin
OK, will do. AW

Verifiability: was Tori raped?[edit]

Regarding the reverts as of late -- personally, it doesn't matter to me whether Tori was actually raped or not, and I don't think it changes the notability of the song. I do, however, want some proof. While the link to hereinmyhead.com with Tori's quote doesn't actually say Tori was raped, it implies that some sort of physical assault or abuse occurred. I'm just maintaining what the page originally said before I got here, as I honestly don't see sufficient proof either way.

I'm on wiki-vacation, technically, so I shouldn't even be writing this. I do want this page to be the best page possible. I'm hoping when I come back (in about 24 to 48 hours) that I will find some actual proof in one direction or another (not a message board where people speculate -- I meam a link to an interview or perhaps a very credible biographer). If I don't find that but I do see the change made again, I will be disappointed because of what's said above. If I see no changes made, I will not be disappointed at all, and I will do the research myself, credibly. Thanks. --Jacquelyn Marie 13:46, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, whatever. It's well known enough, and when I'm not frantically studying, I'll Google one of the many references. Ambi 15:26, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, finished my exam. I think this link from The Dent explains the confusion -- Tori was probably not raped in the legal sense of the term, but she considered herself raped. The Tori Amos article itself uses the term "sexually assaulted," which probably more correct from a legal perspective.
I will also note that some, but not all, sites influenced by Tori and/or RAINN use the word "rape" ([1] and [2], for example). Other sites along this line just don't address it. None of the people hosting survivor sites say, "Tori wasn't raped" -- at least none I can find.
I suggest we just include as much information as possible, instead of just using the word "rape" or "sexual assault." I'm not going to change it yet, though, because I'd like to hear from you and any other interested parties regarding what you found and if you are in agreement with the above. --Jacquelyn Marie 19:27, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest using The Dent's wording. I'm not really fussed either way, though - I left the article as it was until someone else changed it because it's a comparatively minor point. Ambi 06:47, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tori also alludes to her rape in the song "talula". The lyric runs "I've got my rape hat on, honey, but I always could accessorise"

Fair use rationale for Image:Me and a Gun single cover.jpg[edit]

Image:Me and a Gun single cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
