Welcome![edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

Whosyourjudas (talk) 00:08, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Your transaltion question: you can write it however you want. If you would like to translate en->??, be our guest - the english WP is the biggest, and in many areas the best-written and most expansive. When going ??->en, it's up to you whether to translate or right from scratch - the other WPs don't alwayts have the same breadth of info as en:. But in any case you can write from scratch, write with help from another wiki, or translate from another wiki. Good luck. Cheers, Whosyourjudas (talk) 21:26, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Gameiro 20:05, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MalafayaBot[edit]

Hi Your bot recently edited Matthew Bellamy to add the line "he likes cheese". Is this a mistake? Tomayres 19:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Upon reviewing this it seems that your bot simply moved the line from the top of the article to the bottom. The line was added by another user. Sorry for that confusion.
Tomayres 19:46, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

  • May I ask for some manual checks in what the robot is doing? Here it linked a German submarine engineer (Bauer is a very, very common German surname) with a German Volapükst. Since the artificial language was created after Bauer the Engineer died the interwiki is clearly invalid.
An aside note: the vast majority of Volapük Wikipedia are very poor robot generated stubs and IMHO should never be inter-linked automatically (there is/was a long discussion on Meta on what to do, with many suggesting just to delete the whole vo: Wikipedia). Pavel Vozenilek (talk) 02:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's some old edit... I checked and the reason for the link addition is related to this article's version. The Pywikipedia interwiki bot adds interwikis based on new ones found on linked articles. I will remove these ones for now. As for not linking Volapük Wikipedia, it requires some real "official" decision about it as most bot operators do not maintain the Pywikipedia code and thus cannot act directly on how the bot behaves. It should be decided globally. Cheers, Malafaya (talk) 10:11, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, a global decision for those automatically generated Wikies is really needed. Pavel Vozenilek (talk) 19:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that bot generated articles are bad. It just depends on the overall quality of the articles. A bad stub is always a bad stub whether human- or bot-created. For example, if you consider the "old" Lombard Wikipedia ("old" as in before 2 days ago), that was really nothing (broken templates, English text). As for Volapük, I actually consider the bot-generated articles (at least, the majority, and the most recent ones) of good quality. Malafaya (talk) 12:26, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Reynold Bishop[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Brian Reynold Bishop, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Brian Reynold Bishop. Erroneous bot edits[edit]

Hello, your bot recently added a bunch of interwiki links to the article Casa Grande, Arizona. The links all went to articles simply titled "Casa Grande" on different language wikis. None of them are about Casa Grande, AZ. Oddly, yours is the second bot to do this. I'm not sure what logic caused the bot to make this connection (did it follow a redirect?) but you might wish to check on it. Thanks --Laser brain (talk) 20:25, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice. Most likely, some linked article in another wiki is wrongly pointing to that article. I'll check it out and correct whatever needs correction. Malafaya (talk) 22:29, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. This was a messy one. All the wikis that had the wrong link were linking to that article. I had to correct them all manually (around 10). Thanks agains, Malafaya (talk) 22:46, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no! Well, thanks for your hard work and dedication to the project. --Laser brain (talk) 02:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Malafaya! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,168 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Brian Reynold Bishop - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 06:39, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Not that I expect the bot to read my reply here :) ) Although I created the article, the current unreferenced sentences were not written by me, so I'm not to be blamed :P. Malafaya (talk) 15:33, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata is here; please disable any interwiki bots on the English Wikipedia[edit]

Hi!

Wikidata has been deployed to the English Wikipedia. Going forward, Wikidata will manage interwiki links. Further information: m:Wikidata/Deployment Questions and <https://blog.wikimedia.de/?p=13892>.

Important note: Bots that continue to add, remove, or update interwiki links on the English Wikipedia may be blocked from editing after Saturday, February 16, 2013.

If you are running pywikipedia's interwiki.py, please update to pyrev:11073 which will automatically prevent your bot from updating links on this wiki.

If you have any questions, please ask at the bot owners' noticeboard. Thank you for your past work maintaining interwiki links. It has been very appreciated and we're looking forward to an even brighter future with Wikidata. Legoktm (talk) 09:54, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the notice. I updated to pyrev:11073. Regards, Malafaya (talk) 10:37, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
