Hearst Doctrine??? You've got me smiling! I assume you must have meant the Hertz Doctrine if you were trying to invoke the car-rental competitor to Avis... A google search shows the more common of the two coinings totals all of 6 references -- policy wonks have been slow to adopt the phrase for some strange reason.... one possibility I'll throw out there is the risk that the lawyers at Hertz Corporation might take a dim view of associating their trademark with the Bush Administration strategy for world-domination... there is no question the Hertz corporate marketing folks will be horrified, if only because the tagline for Hertz is not "We're Number One" but the decidely less unilateral "Suddenly, you're free again"...
