- http://www.ridgeap.com/tips/macpherson_struts1_2.htm mentions the difference between the MacPherson and Chapman struts. It would be nice to think that there was a public domain pic out there of a real Lotus with a real Chapman strut. Listen, I found the difference between McPherson and Chapman struts a bit confusing - unless you mean that the McPherson allows the wheel to SWIVEL (as required by the steering)? I really was puzzled by the idea of the strut rotating. Or have I got this completely wrong? (If I haven't may I plead with you to change rotate to swivel?) Edetic (talk) 18:58, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Front Left Strut?[edit]
The image shown is for a front passenger side wheel in countries that drive on the right hand side of the road. In the US, automotive parts are referred to in the industry as viewed from the driver seat, so the image of the strut is for the front right wheel, as the strut is on the left/inside of the wheel. Body panels, seats, tires, etc are most often called left /driver's side, or right/passenger side to distinguish exactly which part is needed.
It appears the image was called "Left Front" from the perspective of somebody standing in front of the vehicle, which is incorrect notation. If the image is of a rear strut, which is possible due to the description, then it would be a left rear strut.
The differences of the MacPherson strut also need clarification, here an animation may be in order, though I do not have the skills/software for such.
