This appears to be a specialist term for frequency modulation when used in analog supervisory signaling. (See note 2 in the article body).

This is arguably rapidly becoming a historical term.

There is no note 2 in the article body. I think Frequency-shift keying is a closer synonym. But it's pretty archaic, appearing pretty much nowhere except in dictionaries and glossaries. Probably not worth an article. Dicklyon (talk) 03:56, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
