Guests[edit]

I thought that this article should have a section to list who else was on the show, so I started it. I went ahead and listed who I could think of off the top of my head. This was a great show!! --JRed 23:37, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Hey there, I found this good link that has a full list of episodes/guests, but I dunno how to (newbie here) or how it should be intergrated/linked into the page.

Dr Katz was also recently in the latest season of family guy, when asked why he looked they way he did he said, "I think im having some sort of seizure." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.51.69.46 (talk) 17:49, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interaction Between Guests and Dr. Katz.[edit]

It the audiobook [Katz's Therapy Session], the guests seem to interact minimally with Jonathan Katz's character.

In fact, based on some of their material (which appears to be borrowed from their stand-up routines), it feels a little bit like Dr. Katz's often not-quite-congruous comments are retroactively edited into a guest's monologue.

Of course, that's okay-- it makes the "therapy session" funnier because it's obvious that the two characters are not really that concerned about or connecting to each other. This disconnect is emphasized for comedic effect in Katz's post-session notes, where he raises all sorts of petty, irrelevant, or ridiculous points. In one example, he was concerned about Ray Romano's mother constantly trying ot "drop in" on their sessions:

"I tried to explain to her that she can't just drop in ... certainly unannounced, you know? And I can't .. I can't bill Ray at the same rate... if his mother's here also--I mean that's not fair to anybody."

In another example, Dr. Katz spends over half of his note time for Louis C.K. focusing needlessly on the latter's shoes:

Just another, another quick thought about Louis, whichi--I gotta ... find out where he gets those shoes, I love those shoes, and I have to ask him in a way ... that's not inappropriate. That's my, uh, challenge for next week. 'Cause I can't really ask him just, I can't just outright ask him where he got those shoes; I have to get him talking about them somehow or other. [pause] So I have to little--be a little bit devious, which I don't like to do ... in my role as therapist. Like to save that for the home. Ummm... [pause] I--unless I can just...put a tail on him. Is that, is that an expression? 'Put a tail on someone?' When you have someone followed? ... There's an assignment for Ben is to follow Louis C.K. around and find out where he gets his shoes.

I just wondered if anyone knew more about how the book (and/or shows) were put together. I don't recall the disconnect being as obvious in the TV series, but I DO remember that it was there.

I think it varies per guest star. Some comedians just came on and did their act, which they'd have to find some way to introduce as dialogue one might have with a therapist, which obviously doesn't always go completely smoothly. But other comedians were really engaged with Katz, Dom Irrera is probably the best example. And as for how it was put together, I'm guessing that also varied from guest to guest: some might have been more comfortable with retroscripting than others, some might have had more time to produce more dialogue, etc. Hopefully there's an interview or article somewhere that explains this aspect of the show more. --TM (talk) 18:44, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Character List[edit]

This Article could use an Character list and a discription of of the five main characters and go into details.

DVD Release[edit]

This seems to be the only confirmation of the Season 3 DVD release. I cannot seem to find any news of the release anywhere else on the internet; even Amazon doesn't have any news. Are you sure the 3rd season is coming out in July? If so, I am psyched, however, I just don't understand why there is such a lack of information about that? Can someone site a source? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nuorder (talkcontribs) 10:53, 10 June 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Paramount's complete schedule for July has been known for some time (they're currently announcing Sept. titles), and Dr. Katz - Season 3 on DVD isn't announced for that day, or any other day. The only 3 DVDs Paramount Home Entertainment ships on July 17th are Gunsmoke - Season 1, College Hill - Virgin Islands, and PBS's The Mormans. The information is 100% wrong, and should be removed, as should the info about Season 4 coming in the Winter 2007 time frame. Please cite your sources, or else simply don't post DVD release dates here at Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.6.215.59 (talkcontribs) 08:02, 15 June 2007 (UTC).[reply]
I went ahead and removed this information, as it is supported by neither Amazon.com nor TVShowsOnDVD.com, which does not make sense for a supposed release next week. (Personally, I fear that Comedy Central/Paramount/Viacom has decided to pull the plug on any further releases for some reason. I hope I'm wrong.) — Frédéric Brière () 22:17, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I really hope that they haven't pulled the plug on this show. If they release DVD's for trash shows like "Mama's Family"..why would Dr. Katz take a back Seat? I just don't understand why they just don't release them all. Dr. Katz was one of their fledgling shows and it deserves to have a full release of all the dvd's...this isn't fair!

Is there any confirmation about the new September release date? I don't want to get my hopes up again.

Drawn Together[edit]

I seem to remember Katz being on Drawn Together, then being consumed in lava. Lots42 (talk) 22:05, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Family guy appearence[edit]

I remeber on the family guy appearence he responds to peters question by saying that he "Just smoked a bunch of crack."96.18.67.135 (talk) 02:26, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I remember also his appearence on Family Guy, i think Peter was asking him "What the hell is wrong with you?! Your skin is like moving around or something." and he doesn't answer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.53.215.66 (talk) 05:09, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure the speculation about him being uncomfortable with the seizure joke is reasonable, since the punchline of his Squidbillies role centered on being a rapist. 98.113.91.134 (talk) 22:07, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Music[edit]

The music on the series is credited to Tom Snyder. Does he play all the instruments? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.246.233.15 (talk) 18:02, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Squidbillies[edit]

On an episode of 'Squidbillies', Early and the sheriff consult with a therapist--voiced by Jonathan Katz--about problems in their relationship. Confusion ensues when he attempts to initiate a sexual episode involving the three of them. This confusion is cleared up when he points out the sign on his office door should not be read as 'THERAPIST' but as 'THE RAPIST'. Cigardener55 (talk) 01:23, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

reference to Independence Day[edit]

I removed the reference to Independence Day. Harvey F says "Put me through to Dr. Katz...at $250. (?) an hour you can put me through to his place in the Hamptons!" I highly doubt HF was referring to Dr. Katz of this program. Katz is a common name. There is no reason to believe he is referring to this show. There is no real comic effect and no mention or reference in any "easter egg". Further the animated series makes no mention of the Hamptons, thus further lessening that its any sort of tie in or joke. 70.173.111.131 (talk) 09:41, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
