Thanks. The info in question was from the ARI page which I have now added as a citation. I cannot find a better reference on UN or Vicente López sites, so perhaps it is best taken off entirely, as ARI is not exactly a useful source for this particular info. I know the UN does issue these awards as Porto Alegre is often cited as the UN's favourite municipality worldwide, but not sure which institution does it.

It would be a useful project for someone to complete a list of current members of Congress and perhaps those elected at each election, as there needs to be a stub for each of them. But not sure if it would be anyone's priority. Once I have created a stub for Patti, I'll go back to the 1816 Congresales who don't keep changing jobs and parties. Caroline Benn[edit]

I see that you added to the above article the information that the Benns met over tea at Worcester College, Oxford. Then someone added her to the "former students of Worc Coll" Category, and I am about to reverse that (because Worcester certainly didn't take female students in 1949). I know that Tony B wasn't at Worcester, so I presume that they met in the rooms of some mutual friend - unless, perhaps, she taught at Worcester in some capacity. Thanks! At the moment they both have it - is there anything wrong with that? I don't have access to information on the compostion such as whether there were changes in composition or whether there were delegates elected who did not attend. That would be better information for the Congress article whereas the declaration article is about one aspect of its work. Unbelievably the only book on the House that they sell there in its bookshop (at least in June) did not have information about the members, but I'll keep looking. One of the reasons of why I was not adding my new works in the ARNB, was because I had the thought that I was going to cause some kind of 'clutter'. In a way they didn't seem as important as the articles listed there which are related to either politics, geography, bios, etc... As you said, it's also a good way of promoting certain topics, maybe some others will contribute as well expanding the films or other kind of entertainment types. Thanks for expanding all those MP articles[edit]

Hi Mtiedemann. I just wanted to thank you for your feedback and for expanding/cleaning all those British MP articles I created - I noticed you were doing that a few days ago. I've not been a Wikipedian for very long and it's helpful to be given advice by an expert such as yourself. I'm generally working backwards from the 1992 election for MPs without articles, and I have copies of the Times Guide to the House of Commons going back from 2005 to October 1974 so far. I use the MPs elected in the UK general election "year" articles to see if the individual MPs have articles or not, then create them if they're highlighted in red instead of blue. --Dovea 19:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As for the Labour and Co-operative Party MPs, I only found them as noted on the articles listing all the MPs elected at each general election, eg. MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election, 1992. I hope this info is helpful, it's the least I can do after you expanded all those articles. If you've added the notability tags and nothing has happened, you could use {{prod}} rather than taking it to AFD: after all, if nobody is interested in the article it is likely to be an uncontroversial delete, and is better than listing lots of almost identical AFDs. Mayors of Colchester[edit]

I believe that Wikipedia has a role to catalogue info on local government and have created the hierarchy for UK councillors and several local government articles because it is important to me. What I don't think we can have is a biography on every councillor (tens of thousands in just the last five years), for whom there is little information which can be independently verifiable from a reliable source, nor would there be very much to say which is encyclopedic anyway. A list of Mayors and a list of councillors elected at each election is sufficient to show name, ward, party, year - all that is really relevant.

About the template, I like it; about the tagging, it was me making some mistakes under thinking for a right one; about La Paternal (my neighbourhood!!!), I considered it as low importance because 1) if a capital city must be of high importance, 2) a tourist zone (like Palermo) must be of mid/high importance, 3) other neighbourhoods must be of mid/low importance, but I think it's wrong; about GA or A-Class, other mistake by myself. Basque Country[edit]

Hi Mtiedemann, I saw that Basque Country needed disambiguation at Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links/2006-07-17 dump, and took up the task. I was not totally familiar with the issue so I did quite a lot of reading, and looked at the history of the pages to understand what the issues were with it. I'm still not totally confident that I'm always making the right dab, but the disambiguation has to be done. For example, there are many times that I would like to refer to a region that Basque people live in currently (but that is not totally congruent with the Autonomous region of Spain, or the historical territory) and so it makes it difficult. -- Jeff3000 13:58, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another problem is that the Basque Country (autonomous community) page's history section does not give a good history from around the 16th century where the Basque community was divided as part of Spain and France, but basically functioned as an autonomous regions in both countries. Well I won't claim to be an expert but it's really complicated! Part of the controversy is about a Basque sense of identity and nationhood itself. Modern Basque nationalists like to draw parallels with ancient traditions and the Kingdom of Navarre. Other presumably 'pro-Madrid' editors have taken pains to mention, even where not really relevant, that the symbols of Basque nationhood and the words used to describe Basque institutions were largely invented by Arana in the early 20th century, and there is perhaps a truth to the fact that Basques were more interested in local power and language, than race and nationhood and geography. Naturally it is much more complicated than either extreme and, more relevant to my own original point, much of land-owning, Catholic and conservative Navarre and Álava were often at odds with mountainous and outward-facing Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia. So they were largely on different sides in the 19th century Carlist wars and again in the Civil War. Navarre is very polarised to this day. So I think it's rather hard to attempt a history of the southern Basque Country over that period without straying into even more controversial areas. For the Northern Basque Country, the major incident was the French Revolution where regional identity was suppressed. The provinces' autonomy and fueros were ended at that time. Basque Country[edit]

The Basque Country is only an autonomous community. Navarre is not Basque, and France less. To say that Euskal Herria exists belongs to fools. To say that Euskal Herria is a nationality belongs to ignoramuses. To give more importance to not official instead of to the official thing is intolerable. The things must be oficialiting. re: Category:Date of birth missing[edit]

Good afternoon. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.

By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. It was Thomas Henderson (Scotland), redirecting to Thomas Henderson (Labour politician). I changed all the links to bypass the redirects, and then deleted Thomas Henderson (Scotland) because there are two Scottish politicians of similar era called Thomas Henderson: the other is Thomas Henderson (1874-1951) (see Thomas Henderson for the full list).

Picture Changes[edit]

Hi. Now it's something that Wikipedia stresses over and over again and even I get bored of it but if it's possiable to upload your pictures onto Wikimedia Commons that would be brilliant. All images on wikipedia should be from wiki commons but quite a few get through. I've not "deleted" the images that you added but i've re-done 2 (including the Fairfield Halls one [eg.image:FairfeildHalls.jpg has now changed to image:FairfieldHalls2.jpg so on]). Hi Martin, thanks for your message. Regarding the article Sarah McCarthy-Fry, I tagged the page for deletion using a user Javascript and it notified the last person in the page history. Someone had replaced the content with an attack page.

If you see the logs for the page it was deleted and restored without the attack page.

Tren de la Costa[edit]

Hey Mtiedemann, how you doing, here Moebiusuibeom-en, author and "refiner" of several articles in wikipedia.

I have a question about the last phrase in the Tren de la Costa article, do we have to be so specific about the line being "not been wholly successful", I believe we should water down a bit this part cause it's not really giving the right message, first of all, the line has not been "wholly successful" TO WHOM, the original 100,000 journeys each weekend is really astronomical for a Light Rail line, entering heavy metro numbers here, (see Thomas the Tank Engine) while the drop to 150,000 a month truly "is not wholly successful", but for a light rail line the numbers are not all that bad, daily ridership comes out to 5.357 which is low but according to rail standards, anything 5.000 or above is what you need for a system of this kind to be operable, yes, almost in the border line, but are those numbers correct, been there several times in the last year and found it to be filled-up on Thursday and Saturdays @ all hours, with the cafes down the line also filled up, furthermore, an excess of empty shops may just be the case of an excess of shops in the area!

I know the private operators / private investors may have financial problems and wanting a bailout, but this may just also be greed, Nevertheless, here is my wording suggestion:

The line has not been wholly successful and has seen a large drop in passenger numbers since its opening. In 1995 there were around 100,000 journeys each weekend, but by 2005 there were just 150,000 a month, a third of which are foreign tourists, however, the the current economic upswing may well reverse this trend.

At the time of Ruskin's birth, Croydon was not in London and the concept of South London did not exist. Travel time from his family's homes in Sydenham and Dulwich would have been large. Ruskin himself was embarrassed with his local connections to Croydon. However it is absolutely right to say he had local connections and spent much time in Croydon. His mother was from the town and both his parents are buried in Shirley. Ruskin is a very major figure in the arts, heritage and architecture, with local connections, hence he has been picked for this.

I put a POV check on that section because I feel it is written from a perspective that development and retail are good, and reads as an advert. "...some of South London's most ambitious non-residential schemes in the past ten years" is an example. "Improvements will see Queen's Gardens completely re-modeled" is another: there have been many voices in Croydon saying that these plans destroy Queen's Gardens and the setting of the Town Hall - that's why there was a major planning inquiry, which could yield sources of support and opposition. The fact is that many of these schemes have not been built, are opposed by sections of Croydon's community and have not demonstrated market support.

Also, I find that the section on Croydon Gateway appears to suggest Stanhope's scheme is an obstacle to be overcome: "The problem is that Stanhope already owns part of the site..." etc. If you speak to the Warehouse Theatre or those opposed to the Arena, they would say that Stanhope's ownership is the better scenario, not a 'problem'. In any case, this should be presented as rival potential developments with supporters and detractors, and in the context of a site riven with similar disputes over 40 years, hence why nothing ever gets built there... In the News of 30 October to 13 November, p.7, there's an article entitled 'Co-ops UK rap for former M&F Co-op' which quotes Pauline Green as saying that the memorandum and articles of M & F Scotland Ltd clearly show the organisation is not a co-operative and, therefore, cannot be members of Co-ops UK. This is because voting is now based on shares held, not OMOV. 65% of the shares are held by one individual and his family. In the letters pages of 27 November to 11 December, Co-ops UK responds to a letter from a (former) M&F member which specifically calls the change 'demutualisation'. Co-ops UK suggested they were still supporting members who fought the demutualisation and would continue to monitor the situation. UK.coop still lists the society as a co-operative however. Thanks for chipping in and editing the article so quickly. Your research implies, but does not say explicitly, that a transfer of undertakings to M & F (Scotland) Ltd has already taken place. Clearly joint stock companies are allowed in Co-operatives UK if they have constitutions that allow co-operative principles - many employee-owned companies are in this bracket. However it sounds like M&F has no such special rules! I understand what you said last time, but what I wrote about Ruskin Square/Croydon Gateway is that the reason why the development has been delayed is because there is a problem between the two different firms. Personally I believe that with The O2 Arena so close the arena is not viable for Croydon and so I actually do support Stanhope's alternative plan. If you ask me maybe the Fairfield Halls should be moved onto the site, as it does need a new building and maybe it could get some better acts with a newer high tech building. Until 2002 quite a few wards in Croydon were two member wards. Then the Boundary Commission decide that they wanted to make all wards three-member where they could across London. But sometimes to do so would involve pulling areas together that don't fit well. Meanwhile the New Addington estate is getting smaller in terms of electors. It had five councillors but could only justify four. So to make it into two 3-member wards you would have to include areas off the estate. It was easier to make New Addington and Fieldway both 2-member wards. In Bromley there are some wards under 3, in the countryside bits around Orpington. I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Re: this edit, please correct me if I'm wrong, (and I probably am wrong), but I thought a "non-profit mutual" was an oxymoron - i.e. I thought the aim of a mutual was to make a profit to "pay dividends" (or provide some other form of return) to their members. London Wikimedia Fundraiser[edit]

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge!
