Jimmy Wilson[edit]

This information is unsourced and comes out of nowhere. While I don't doubt that such a ridiculous sentence could have been handed down to a black man for such a small offense in the Jim Crow south, it needs something to back it up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.145.154.40 (talk) 04:43, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Athens of the South[edit]

The reference to Marion being "The Athens of the South" may be incorrect. Samford University's Library Research Series includes a biographical sketch of Samuel A. Townes written by Lee N. Allen wherein Marion is referred to as "The Athens of the State." Note the difference, State - not South. This sounds more plausible because Nashville Tennessee has been known as "The Athens of the South" since the 1840's. --Wesley Worrell (talk) 21:02, 26 May 2012 (UTC) (Moved from article space to talk page by Altairisfar (talk) 21:18, 26 May 2012 (UTC))[reply]
