Seems like nonsense to me. Someone want to verify? Otherwise delete. Also might want to check the links. - Ta bu shi da yu 04:06, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Needs an overhaul and some verification: Lempriere gives the following:
"Mesalinus M. Valer.: a Roman officer in the reign of Tiberius. He was appointed governor of Dalmatia, and rendered himself known by his opposition to Piso, and by his attempts to persuade the Romans of the necessity of suffering women to accompany the camps on their different expeditions. Tacit. Ann. 3 ---- One of Domitian's informers. ---- A flatterer of the emporer Tiberius."

Apologies for the length, but the article attempts to be about entrant #3 in the list but has details of marriage, etc. Note the unusual nomenclature in this article and the fact that it covers one of three men by the name, two contemporaries. Lempriere is old (mine is 1848), and he has errors occasionally, but if the author used vastly better sources, then he or she still needs to cover the name better. Geogre 05:55, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. Twice elected consul qualifies as encyclopedic. Does every entry in Lempriere qualify? Anyway, this one does. Andrewa 16:30, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • I think it does. My problem is that the article seems to mix up what Lempriere has as two separate people. Now, Lempriere makes mistakes, so I want some help from the author. I.e. there is the "flatterer" (described in the article), and there is the consul (described in the article), and Lempriere has them as two people, but the article as one. I don't know if this is a mistake by Lempriere or error by our author, but citation would have fixed it. Geogre 20:11, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep - it would help if the anon who creates these either logged in first or wikified them, or both, but these are relatively notable people. (I believe they are all in the List of ancient Romans.) Adam Bishop 17:31, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Consul in AD 3[edit]

Was M. Messallinus a consul in AD 3? List_of_early_imperial_Roman_consuls listed that the consuls in AD 3 are L. Aelius Lamia and M. Servilius, but not M. Messallinus. Mhwu 08:47, 5 November 2005 (UTCM)

Messallinus was consul in those dates, check Suetonius and or any Ancient History Biographies on Greeks or Romans. I am sick of people judging articles and the content in it, whether the information is correct or not. Everything in this article is information from the ancient sources. All information is correct. 31 December 2005.
