This list is too big for Wikipedia[edit]

It is so big that the templates at the bottom of the page are not displaying properly. For technical details, see the explanation at the top of Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded.

I don't know of a fix other than to split the table and put some of it on a different Wikipedia page. This will make it impossible to sort across tables.

I recommend splitting the table by region, but having a "top 150" list which will capture the top peaks in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Sorry Isle of Man, you don't show up until 821. Put Scotland's in their own Wikipedia page, put the others in their own sections in this article, along with the top 10 of Scotland.

Another option is to split the table by island, keeping Scotland, England, and Wales in one table. Put this table in a separate Wikipedia page. Use the main "list" article for "top-200," Ireland, and Isle of Man. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:43, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the issue re the templates not displaying properly? It is a data-list, so being able to sort it on one table is useful; also, several peaks are on borders, so splitting into separate country lists would be a problem to construct. Also, this table needs to be updated every year (prominences, which Marilyns rely on, have been getting revised regularly), which requires a download from the DoBIH database. The current format is in a layout that can be uploaded within an hour. Further customizing the table, would make this process more complex. Britishfinance (talk) 20:01, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Table is broken[edit]

@Onetwothreeip, Britishfinance, Dave.Dunford, Rodw, and DeFacto: (interested parties - repeat editors of the page - though I think Britishfinance has stopped editing) This edit three years ago with summary "Cutting down size of very large article, unnecessary external links" broke the display in the "OS grid ref" table. The current display shows the latitude and longitude and the OS grid ref, with nothing clickable. I'm not sure how best we can remedy this given that there have been quite a lot of useful small edits to the page since then (not including the immediately following edit "(Fixed Linter errors)"). Beinn Ghlas[edit]

@Boleyn Yes, different hills. I've dabbed the entries in this list. I used the fact that the person who created the dab page had also worked on List of Marilyns in the Southern Highlands, and went back to a version of that before it was merged into the present wider list! In that early version they all had disambiguated names. Glad to be able to help. Geal-Chàrn, with Geal Charn (Loch Laggan) and 4 or 5 others in this list of Marilyns (and redlinked Munros listed as Geal-chàrn and Geal Chàrn!) is another example of an ambiguous name, and there are probably many more. i'm not going down that rabbit hole. Sorting this list, or List of Munro mountains, on the "name" column shows lots of scope for mountain disambiguation work, like the helpful but technically inadequate dab page at An Socach (no blue links for a couple). Conflation of political and geographical areas[edit]

The "Region" column of the table has Scotland, Wales, England, the Isle of Man and Ireland. The latter is potentially confusing since it's being used in its geographical sense (and therefore includes peaks in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland), while the rest are referring to political regions. It would make more sense for all peaks with "Ireland" in the Region column to be divided into "Republic of Ireland" and "Northern Ireland". That's around 400 entries, so it would take a while. But since every entry has map coordinates, it would be relatively straightforward. (Unless a peak lies on the border, of course.) -- Hux (talk) 20:07, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
