Curse of the Bambino[edit]

"Fulfilling the Curse of the Bambino, the Red Sox fell 4 games to 3 in the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals, losing three times to Bob Gibson. "

Is this realistic explanation of why the Red sox lost this particular World series ? Because of a "curse" ? Or did it have more to do with having to face Bob Gibson 3 times and pitching Jim Lonborg on 2 days rest in game seven ? No Guru

The edit is fine with me, but try telling millions of Boston fans there's no curse :) Dze27 04:55, Feb 17, 2004 (UTC)
I hear you & thanks for the support. The curse reference doesn't really fit here (or on most other player pages IMO)No Guru 21:49, 17 Feb 2004 (UTC)

External Links[edit]

I'm wondering about the external link to the baseball history site. It seems to be a site used for selling memorabilia and has no content at all. If no one objects I will remove it in a few days. No Guru 18:19, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Lonborg[edit]

Expanding on the earlier comment about Lonborg: he pitched Game 7 on two days rest because he had pitched the pennant-clinching game against Minnesota on the last day of the 1967 season. As a result, he started (and won) Games 2 and 5 of the Series, where Gibson started Games 1 and 4. Yaz hit two home runs in Game 2.--Rich 05:44, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He had an OBP% of .500 for the series ! No Guru 07:10, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Batting Stance Photo[edit]

Anyone have a good photo (with appropriate rights) showing his batting stance. That would be the definative Yaz photo and should be in here! John (Jwy) 20:57, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree: there's got to be a better photo of Yaz's batting stance. Billbrock 19:21, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 13:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I've upgraded the assessment on this to a C from Start as it's well along the way with some good detail and references.--Lepeu1999 (talk) 18:04, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1970 batting title, etc.[edit]

I find:

"Johnson himself robbed Yastrzemski of a homer (after the season, admitting that a fan in the stands put the ball in his glove) was pulled out of the last game to ensure his batting title."

Did you mean:

"Johnson, who himself robbed Yastrzemski of a homer (after the season, admitting that a fan in the stands put the ball in his glove). was pulled out of the last game to ensure his batting title."

I don't know about a fan putting a ball in his glove, but I did read in other sources that Johnson, to win the batting title, had to go 2-for-3 (2-for-4 would have raised his batting average but not enough to win the batting title). Johnson went 2-for-3 and was lifted at that point. (I think Yaz had finished his season the previous day.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.82 (talk) 14:58, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
