Talk:Maid of honor

It seems to me (I admit, I don't know huge amounts about weddings) that the Maid of Honor is not a married or older bridesmaid. The maid of honor is an unmarried woman who is the closest attendant to the bride, isn't she? And if married, isn't she the matron of honor? Like I said, I may not know what I'm saying, but it seems to me this is how the title's been used at the weddings I've attended. Jwrosenzweig 17:00 24 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I've corrected this -- "matron of honour" is still in common usage in the UK for mature bridesmaids. "Maid of honour", which originally meant a royal attendant, may occasionally be used instead of "bridesmaid", but is still unusual. Deb 20:34 24 Jul 2003 (UTC)
