Is this not Charles V, duke of Lorraine rather than Charles IV? --Wetman 13:00, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • Which Chareles V? If you are confused about two Charles III in Duke of Lorraine, they are the same person. muriel@pt 13:05, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I'm terminally confused! Charles V indeed. I did mean CIII vis a vis CIV. --Wetman 13:07, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Actually, my understanding is that this guy is sometimes called Charles IV and sometimes Charles V, and that the guy we have at Charles III is sometimes called Charles III and sometimes Charles IV. The whole succession of dukes of Lorraine in the 17th century is extraordinarily confusg, what with several abdications and a couple of long French occupations. The current list at Duke of Lorraine is based on the 1911 Britannica, but I'm not completely sure of it, because I'm not really sure that Nicholas II was actually Duke for the whole 1634-1661 period. john k 15:04, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

This Charles was not the father of Leopold Joseph (Charles IV Lepold was), but the link in the latter's bio directs here.

Image question[edit]

Can anyone help me identify which of the many Charles of Lorraine the image File:Wenceslas Hollar - Charles of Lorraine.jpg (right) is? Thanks. Dcoetzee 19:49, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
