Image Tagging[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexavegaupdated.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. For now, the image is marked {{unverified}}. Thanks so much, Superm401 05:56, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)

Please give a fair use rationale. Also, please give the source of the image. Thank you. --Ellmist 07:48, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Alito family caption[edit]

When you added the picture of Alito's family, you used this caption: "Martha Alito (R) with daughter Laura (L) and son Philip (C) look on as President Bush announces his nomination." I want to ask, what do those letters after their names mean? I couldn't figure it out, and I removed them. It looked to me like someone jokingly adding in letters to represent parties, like one does after Senators and Congressmen. Can you clear this up for me? Jdavidb [[talk • contribs]] 19:42, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! That's much more obvious now. Jdavidb [[talk • contribs]] 17:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Mann.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Mann.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesiontalk 03:17, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:EllenArthur.jpg)[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:EllenArthur.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image copyright problem with Image:Gregory.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gregory.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

Fair use rationale for Image:Alitocollege.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Alitocollege.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Non-free use disputed for Image:Sherlock3.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sherlock3.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:03, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Hotel for dogs contraptions.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hotel for dogs contraptions.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:15, 2 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. You've made some additions to the iPad article and they were good. However I found a minor issue with them in that your references didn't use US date form which is the consensus for that article. I've now updated your references to use dates in US form, however if in future you could check if there looks to be a consensus on the type of date to be used on a page.

FWIW Pages often used to use yyyy-mm-dd as when linked that would display according to the users preferences - however that linking has been removed now so generally either "worldwide" or "US" forms are now used (see WP:DATE#Dates for more details).

Recent Deletions to the List of Justices of the Supreme Court page[edit]

Rorschach - you made some substantial changes to the List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States page without making any comments on the talk page. Some of your changes were suggested four years ago and the community decided not to do it. You also removed real data about the dates of assuming the office. The removal of the timeline (something I admit to having vested interest in) seems very drastic - it is a useful graphic. Could you let me know your reasoning, and your thoughts on reverting some of this? Jrkenti (talk) 20:18, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See the PR page for advice on making columns optional. On the matter of the timelines (see above) these were labelled as "redundant information" when the article was delisted fron featured status. It would be as well, however, to mention this, and your rationales for other changes, on the talkpage. Brianboulton (talk) 21:38, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About segregate-refs.js[edit]

I noticed that you are using my references segregator script (segregate-refs.js) and want to give you the heads up that I will no longer (at least for now) support the Internet Explorer web browser as I will shortly update the script with some bug fixes and a new feature. If you, by chance, are using Internet Explorer (and therefore the button for this script disappears), I recommend switching to another browser if you want to continue using the script. File source problem with File:Bushnominatealito.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Bushnominatealito.jpg.

You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Invitation to wikiFeed[edit]

Hello Rorschach,

I'm part of a team that is researching ways to help Wikipedia editors find interesting content to contribute to Wikipedia. More specifically, we are investigating whether content from news sources can be used to enhance Wikipedia editing. We have created a tool, called wikiFeed, that allows you to specify Twitter and/or RSS feeds from news sources that are interesting to you. wikiFeed then helps you make connections between those feeds and Wikipedia articles. We believe that using this tool may be a lot of fun, and may help you come up with some ideas on how to contribute to Wikipedia in ways that interest you. Please participate! To do so, complete this survey and follow this link to our website. Once you're there, click the "create an account" link to get started.

For more information about wikiFeed, visit our project page. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask via my talk page, or by email at wikifeedcc@gmail.com. We appreciate your time and hope you enjoy playing with wikiFeed!

File:Bradbury Cilley.jpg missing description details[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as:

is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 09:24, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rorschach, thank you so much for your updates to the article. I just wanted to ask if you could refrain from using citations in the lead (WP:LEADCITE) and keep those in the body of the article. The lead is supposed to be a summary of what's in the body of the article and shouldn't introduce new information. This is in keeping with the article's current WP:GA standards. Edit summaries[edit]

Friends, I implore you to include edit summaries. Please. You send watchers of these articles into a mild panic every time you make substantial edits without an edit summary notifying others of your intention. Also, please be cautious that your copy edits do not fundamentally change the meaning of the text. For example, one citation for the Nathaniel Hawthorne article noted that he "probably" changed his name at a certain time period for a presumed reason. Your edit made it sound like we know the exact date and the exact reason, neither of which are true. Further, in the article on Salem, Massachusetts, you made it seem as if one person was the sole signer of a document, when previously the sentence noted there were many. Thank you for understanding. --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:16, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Citation Barnstar
Holy snopes, you sure dumped a lot of great and poignant RSes upon the venerable Copland (operating system)! I hate to say it but would you believe that citations are supposed to go everywhere except the lead? WP:LEADCITE. Since you're familiar with them, would you mind moving them to the body where they go? And add the publication date (date=) and format the dates correctly as mdf. You already got "{{cite news" but newspapers should also have "newspaper=New York Times". Most of them are otherwise very well formatted with "first= | last=" and everything. That was amazing for an article I've worked so hard on. Maybe you'd like to see Taligent and Workplace OS, which I wrote. Thank you so much. — Smuckola(talk) 17:59, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate the feedback! I will move them to appropriate places in the body. I use the citation generator in the Visual Editor, which I’m guessing is not perfect, so I’ll double check those and add those missing properties. Thank you! Rorschach 20:51, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok I'm sorry, I hadn't considered Visual Editor. I assumed you were doing it manually because it was pretty thorough. Looking at the generated source code would help you learn what to further edit manually! I assumed that stuff, sorry, but if it's hard for ya, let me know and I'm glad to supplement. I always do everything manually except the occasional script like WP:REFILL and WP:MOSNUMscript. Everybody should have those too. So I guess you're into old Apple stuff? Let me know if you want any help or whatever. There's lists of general citations available at the bottoms of Apple Inc and at WP:APPLE, and some task lists at WP:APPLE, if you're looking for such things to do. I did most of AIM alliance, the PowerPC articles are good to work on, and System 7 has a ton of WP:OR and lack of WP:RS . I'm all about the old stuff, and the lost causes. ;) — Smuckola(talk) 22:55, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
