Other names[edit]

What is its name in the Russian language and other languages of Russian Far East? Should better be included in the box. — Instantnood 09:05, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I do not know its Russian name while there is no link to Russian Wikipedia.--Jusjih 14:14, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

river coordinates?[edit]

How can a river have such exact coordinates as shown at top right? Jidanni 14:37, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mongolian / Manchu?[edit]

According to Chinese wikipedia, the original name for the river is not Mongolian - it's Manchu. The whole name is (transcribed into Hanzi) 土门色禽, which means 土门=ten thousand 色禽=springs/river sources. Are there more sources for this claim? If so, the article should be changed...

I believe the Mongolian and Manchu languages are related.--Jack Upland (talk) 09:39, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article Development[edit]

As this river forms the border of China, Russia and the DPRK, it seems to be a potentially important subject. I hope to devote some attention to this article, but don't want to step on any other editors' toes. So please let me know if you have any concerns regarding the following. WikiProject Rivers suggests considering the following sections: Source; Course; Tributaries; Watershed (geography and distribution of drainage basins, location of mountain ranges, valleys, major cities, climate(s), water quality); River modifications (dams, diversion canals, bridges and culverts, roads, and other engineering projects); Natural history; Geology; History; and Economy. As the tripartite border is probably the Tumen's most important encyclopedic aspect, the critical sections may be history and economy. Viewing past entries, as well as articles outside of Wikipedia, issues of particular interest to the Tumen may be Paektu-san source, Yuan Hui / Anguin Treaty, Peking / Beijing Treaty / Convention, Battle of Lake Khasan, refugee issues, Changbaishan national park (China, with similar parks in Russia), border demarcations, navigability and navigation rights, Tumen River Area Development Programme, endangered species, and etymology.--Rpclod (talk) 14:46, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think one of the problems is the excessive attention given to stray media reports about North Korean defectors. These reporters might not even have been to the Tumen River. They are hardly authoritative.--Jack Upland (talk) 09:36, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Murders[edit]

I wonder how reliable this source is:[1] The angle is clearly sensational. The photo actually shows the Yalu River. The sources used are South Korean experts and an anonymous Chinese official. There are no Chinese sources cited. The other problem is that we don't know the scope of the problem overall. I don't doubt that incidents are happening — there is a similar account at the border article — but it's unclear what the extent of them is.--Jack Upland (talk) 09:02, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Include the Rason Special Economic Zone article[edit]

There's no Wikipedia article on the "Tumen River Economic Development Area".

There is, however, an article on the "Rason Special Economic Zone", which should be mentioned here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8A:C100:84CC:E421:C561:900D:6A5A (talk) 22:18, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rivers meet?[edit]

Mistakefinder, I think the Tumen and the Yalu both have their origin in Heaven Lake, Mt Paektu. Jack Upland (talk) 04:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jack Upland That's a misconception. I've verified in the Chinese version and other versions of the article, plus examining the Google map aerial photos, plus the Heaven Lake article too. They do not meet. Heaven Lake is a crator lake that does not have outlets. Mistakefinder (talk) 16:23, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information.--Jack Upland (talk) 04:18, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
