Lineup[edit]

unreleased songs[edit]

Supergroup?[edit]

Hardly a supergroup, right? I mean now we can look back and say so, but at the time I wouldn't have called them (Vedder especially) incredibly famous. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I very well could beOreo man 20:48, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

but, people might get the impression that this group was formed after Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were famous, when in fact it formed *before* the grunge breakthrough - [not signed]
TotD is my favorite band. That said, they're not a 'supergroup.' Can't be, for the reasons given; lack of name recognition at the time of the recording, plus that 'supergroups' typically have members of three-plus bands involved. TotD, as much as I love 'em, was nothing more than the remnants of a just-barely-signed band (Mother Love Bone) with friends from a slightly-better-known-but-still-underground band (Soundgarden) and some guy named Ed who happened to be hanging around for auditions to fill the spot vacated prematurely by Andy Wood, singing songs to and/or about their dead singer-roommate-friend-inspiration-stardog champion...
Toto were a supergroup. The Traveling Willburys were a supergroup. Cream were a supergroup. Kansas were somewhat a supergroup. Later incarnations of King Crimson could be called a supergroup; ditto Yes. TotD were just a bunch of guys getting together to mourn a tragic loss...and in the process creating what is, in my opinion, the best single album ever recorded...but they're not a supergroup. [Edit, 21-Sep-06] I'm not sure why an unregistered user from Italy would remove this one, inoffensive line from this article, but the least you could do is attempt to explain yourself. I can reach a few feet to my left and hold an advance promo CD of Audioslave's first album, on which the final track is a cover - a close cover, but still noticably different -of 'Your Savior.' I'm very, very, very sceptical that Audioslave covered "Your Saviour". What I think might have happened is that someone stuck the leaked "Civilian" demos onto a CD and (accidentally or intentionally) included Temple Of The Dog's "Your Saviour". But I don't know for sure. I think perhaps some concrete proof is needed if this is to be included in the article. Beve 11:31, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • shrug* Dunno why anyone would go to the trouble of taking sub-par demo demo tapes and putting them on a non-writable CD labeled as a promo copy and then just toss a ToD song in at the end of it. Also don't know why I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between fully mixed and post-produced version of the final AS release and the Civilian demos, when I have copies of those that I can compare them to. Don't know why I can hear subtle but clear differences between the version on my ToD CD and the version on my AS promo CD.

Doesn't really matter enough to me to continue going on about it; I'll just Ebay the CD as a rare collector's item in a few years, and the Wiki record can remain inaccurate.-- lowgenius -- My Talk Page 02:04, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have to remain sceptical - and I don't mean any offence by being a Doubting Thomas. It's just that none of my Cornell-fan buddies know anything about this and some of them collect anything and everything he's ever done. I remember there was a lot of confusion around the time of the leaked 'Civilian' demos, with trolls and 'noobs' alike confusing Temple Of The Dog songs with Audioslave-to-be material. It strikes me as an odd one for them to cover, with (a) the length of 11 minutes and (b) the emotional connection to Chris Cornell, being written in tribute to Andrew Wood. Also, I'd have thought that any differences would be a lot more than subtle, given Tom Morello's unique guitar playing style. I'd like to hear it, that much is for sure!
