Self-contraction: Nirvana in 1994[edit]

From Success and Decline: "Nirvana, the Aberdeen, Washington band that had kicked off grunge's breakthrough into mainstream music, was scheduled to headline the festival, but Kurt Cobain declined the invitation."

But under Lollapalooza lineups by year, 1994: "Nirvana was scheduled to headline but had to pull out after Kurt Cobain's death." So which is it?

2007 Line-Up[edit]

There are a number of improbabilities with the speculative line-up that has been posted on the site. One of the biggest is the claim that the Smashing Pumpkins will be at the festival. The Smashing Pumpkins have already announced that they will be at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore that weekend. True, it is possible that they could make an appearance at both festivals, but it's unlikely.--Truthiness 23:52, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I heard on the radio that the full line-up will be announced 10 April 07? Within the next week anyway, so keep ears open and eyes peeled for that. -- Reaper X 00:45, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple sources including Pearl Jam's official website have confirmed that Pearl Jam is scheduled to headline Sunday. Until the official band list is posted by Lollapalooza, Pearl Jam's inclusion is newsworthy and credible. 24.136.6.110 17:14, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Checking Year by Year Lineups[edit]

Just took Pearl Jam and Soundgarden off the 1991 tour. They only toured with Lollapalooza in 1992 (and SG again in 1996). Double checked PJ's involvement on their website, which has a comprehensive tour history. Someone should check to make sure that other bands are not misrepresented having toured on Lollapalooza. --Ber06122 22:56, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Violent Femmes, Fishbone and Beck were not at the original Lollapalooza in 1991, at least not at the one I went to in DC. Maybe they were added for other shows, but I think that they were probably in a different year altogether.67.172.218.189 01:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No longer meets current featured article criteria[edit]

Hi, this article no longer meets some of the criteria for being a featured article. 1) It needs some references and to cite them properly. If the external links were in fact used as references, then they should be formatted properly as references. Ideally, additional references should be consulted, used to expand the article, and cited. 2) The list of lineups is not great prose and should probably be in a separate list article and the rest of the prose expanded.

Because this article would no longer qualify as a featured article by current standards, I wanted to give the editors here a chance to work on making it meet those standards before listing it at Wikipedia:Featured_article_removal_candidates. Let me know if a week or two is not enough. Thanks - Taxman 00:03, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)

After over a month I've listed it at WP:FARC. No offense, but it simply doesn't meet many of the featured article criteria. - Taxman 03:38, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

I read somewhere that the NY band Pray for the Soul of Betty performed at Lollapalooza once, in 2003 or something. [1]

Hole in 2006?[edit]

For some reason I find it hard to believe that Hole is going to be performing in 2006. Flyerhell 09:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2005[edit]

I just made a fairly major edit to the 2005 lineup section, and I'm looking for input. I think that as it stands, readability in the section has increased markedly, but so has the vertical length of the section. Another alternative is to break up the stage sections, and just list the bands in the order of their performances -- but there are a number of other things that could also be done. Unfortunately, it will never be as concise as the other years, because there were five stages and a kids section -- but it should at least look neat. Input appreciated. gavindow 01:02, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think I found some vandalism about eating poop...I'm deleting it. -- Josh_Sims_52240@yahoo.com

The word has more meaning than just the festival[edit]

Take a look at this image from a WWII cartoon for identifying Japanese prisoners and you will see the word used:

http://www.ep.tc/howtospotajap/howto06.html

It states:

-Or try Lalapalooza on them! Thats a panic!

I'm not sure the "proper" way to cite, but that link is used in the shibboleth page, so I'll copy the stuff from there. 99.62.0.233 (talk) 12:36, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added in the section on it from the Shibboleth page with some minor modifications, such as linking to Engrish. I think i referenced the link right, but I am not quite sure how the referencing works with Wikipedia. 99.62.0.233 (talk) 13:15, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sucess and Decline[edit]

I edited the Success and Decline section. As displayed in the lineups below it, the side stage debuted in 1992, not 1994. -RHW

Listen to the Official Lollapalooza 2008 Playlist[edit]

This playlist features every artist to perform this year in Lollapalooza:

Why does this get taken down in the 'external links' portion of article? It's directly related and helpful to the entry...plus I spent a lot of time on it! —Preceding jonfredric comment added by 67.88.219.227 (talk) 18:23, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an official Lollapalooza website. As you said, you made it yourself. If people want to hear songs by the bands performing in 2008 they can go to the official Lollapalooza website.-5- (talk) 19:53, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reference section[edit]

Are those really inspired by lollapalooza? a "palooza" has been used alot much before lollapalooza so i dont think that section should be there76.246.39.230 (talk) 06:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Years Active[edit]

I'm changing the number to 15 years. It's been 20 years since the first year of the festival, but there haven't been 20 events in the intervening time. 1998-2002 and 2004 were, by definition, "inactive" years for the festival. 98.217.75.153 (talk) 02:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted an edit that changed the years active back to 20 without any rationale. 98.217.75.153 (talk) 19:07, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy Doody[edit]

Looking at a slideshow in the DVDs of the Howdy Doody Show, I was surprised to see a picture of a device labeled "LOLLAPALOOZA", using that exact spelling. It consists of a box with diagonal stripes across it, with various bulbs, probably electric light bulbs, on the top and a handle on one side. Perhaps one of Howdy's inventions? 68.37.254.48 (talk) 21:28, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing sentence[edit]

The first sentence of the History section; "Inspired by the Gathering of the Tribes concerts produced by Bill Graham, Perry Farrell, Ted Gardner, Marc Geiger, and Don Muller, conceived of the festival in 1990 as a farewell tour for his band Jane's Addiction." is very confusing to me. Who produced the Gathering of the Tribes concerts and who conceived of the festival in 1990...? I know I could Wikipedia it, but thats not the point really.101.179.46.216 (talk) 07:11, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Opening paragraph is incorrect[edit]

The opening paragraph says "an annual four-day music festival first held in 1991 at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois and since expanded to other locations." This is incorrect. The festival did start in 1991, but it was not in Grant Park. The second paragraph explains this. My revision correcting this was reverted as "no improvement".

Petdance (talk) 15:42, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Petdance, apologies for that, I acted rashly in reverting your edit. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 23:28, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking[edit]

Hi Tad Lincoln, you undid a revert I did earlier. There is no need to link the park, city, and state. One should be enough, all three is overkill. Also, please do not edit war; if you disagree with my revert, this is the place to discuss it. Thank you. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 04:27, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
