Welcome!

Hello, Guardian of Light, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

More welcome[edit]

The above was a default welcome, which has quite a bit of useful links. One suggestion: whenever possible, it is good to put instead of {{stub}} something more specific, like {{physics-stub}} or {{math-stub}}. Have fun! Oleg Alexandrov 23:33, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Oh, and since you are new, there is one good habit to cultivate (which many veterans here never got), and that is putting an edit summary. It is quite helpful for other people who have the given article on their watchlist, as it shows what you actually changed in the article. Oleg Alexandrov 23:33, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
And by the way, you might consider putting Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics on your watchlist — that's where all the math-related discussions on Wikipedia take place — and putting your name on the list of participants.
Wish you to guard well the light! Oleg Alexandrov 05:50, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Would you assist me with a problem?[edit]

It's an integral I'm working on and it's deceptively difficult.

Guardian of Light 03:06, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I can try. I cannot do it today, as I have to go home now, but you can post it on my talk page and I will look at it tomorrow. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov 03:11, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It's on my talk page in the problems section; last one.

Guardian of Light 03:13, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think you meant to say it is on your user page.
Now, I am not sure I understand that problem. Do you want the antiderivative of f(x) expanded in Taylor series? If so, that is not deceptively simple. The formula for the coefficients of the Taylor series will be quite complicated, involving lots of sums and lots of factorials. Anyway, I've got to go now. If you clarify the problem, I will think more about it tomorrow. Oleg Alexandrov 03:20, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Actually I said deceptively difficult, but that's not the point. As for a taylor series, I don't know whether or not you would want to use a maclaurin series for this, but given that it says that is centered at zero it may be so. But as the integral has no closed form (that I can muster) I would say expanding at least one of them into a maclaurin series would be a good idea.

Guardian of Light 03:48, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well, the only thing I can think of involves expanding both in the Taylor series at 0 (maclaurin series, as you say). I don't see any other way.

Say you want the 101-st power of x out of this. Then it is enough to keep only the terms

and from here we need to pick the power

Now, you would need to apply the multinomial formula, and you will get an ugly double sum with lots of factorials which I doubt can be simplified. Try to work out the details, and let me know how it goes. Oleg Alexandrov 05:09, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

But I do mind a user page; and have requested not to have one. See top of my talk page. Greetings, regardless. Septentrionalis 8 July 2005 17:03 (UTC)

Wow...[edit]

wow, great work on the Chrono Trigger related pages. Thanks a lot. You ever contribute to the Chrono Compendium Forum? Peaceman 20:21, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of what that is, would you elaborate please?Guardian of Light 20:29, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The Chrono Compendium is a wiki of the Chrono series created by ZeaLitY. It also has a forum, where people talk and debate about CT, CC, and RD. I used to be active, but I don't have time anymore. The Compendium is at www.chronocompendium.com. Peaceman 21:19, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ocean Palace[edit]

I noticed you deleted an Ocean Palce link which doesn't bother me but what if we created an Ocean Palace/Black Omen page? Alone they might not be significant enough but I think together it might be worth it. And thanks for redirecting the 12000 B.C. page, I thought I had double checked if the game placed a comma in it, but I guess not. Hansamurai 13:15, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose that would work for me. What do we put it down as though? Ideas for a page name? Perhaps something to do with Lavos? Guardian of Light 14:05, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe do Black Omen and then have Ocean Palace redirect to it as the Black Omen is argurably more important to the story and plot. Though technically the Ocean Palace is required whereas the Black Omen is not. So I don't know... :) Or Ocean Palace/Black Omen maybe and do Ocean Palace and Black Omen? It's not super important that it needs to be done today, just something to think about. Hansamurai 18:41, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding and improving the Pokémon articles[edit]

I saw your name on the WikiProject Pokédex rollcall. The Pokémon Adoption Center is improving, expanding, cleaning up, and reorganizing the Pokémon-related articles, and I wanted to invite you back to help. Some of the Pokémon species stubs still need to be adopted, and we're still building consensus on how to structure tools like categories and lists, designing new infoboxes, and writing a new Pokémon article style guide. If you're interested, take a look at our new Wikiportal, and come and contribute to the discussion at WP:PAC. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 23:10, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do, right now I'm in the middle of a big project, but it's over 50% done (I hope) so I should be available to help soon. Guardian of Light 23:32, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematics CotW[edit]

hey Light, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks--Cronholm144 21:36, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Smile[edit]

I feel that I was overly critical of some of your contributions, particularly those to Differentiable manifold. The Wikipedia project can only exist if tireless volunteers continue to boldly attempt to improve the encyclopedia, and this should be encouraged rather than discouraged, regardless of the opinions of the editors involved in a dispute. Unfortunately, disputes also seem to be a necessary component of the editing process, and they always leave a sour taste to everyone involved.

I hereby award you this:
