Gadsden Purchase Map

Splendid map you made! But, I must admit, even as a map-head, I'm a bit lost. D'you think it would be possible to include markers for a city or two? I'd suggest Phoenix or Tucson (T. is inside the Gadsden tract, isn't it?), El Paso -- and maybe Santa Fe, it's remote enough not to get too crowded. What do you think? Feasible? Heh. Well, let's see: according to my big honkin' atlas, Tucson, Yuma and Sierra Vista seem to be the three largest cities inside the Gadsden Purchase today. Phoenix and all of its suburbs - Glendale, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, are just outside of the Gadsden purchase, as is Silver City, NM and Las Cruces, NM.

I'm not as concerned now about the historical cities of the time since there weren't very many in the region (still aren't). So, we'll just go with some nearby modern ones for context.

Let's try this. Texas isn't really in the map, so I'll leave out El Paso, but let's do Phoenix (out), Tucson (in), Yuma (in), Sierra Vista (in), Las Cruces (out) and Alamogordo (out). That sound allright? RADICALBENDER★ 19:03, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Ok, Sounds good. Shame about El Paso, but yes, you'd have to include another set of state lines and the int'l border for it to make sense (and the end result would be too fussy, I suspect). So go ahead and try that. See how it works out, but (with a 250px or so display inside the article...) I'd suggest Sierra Vista as the prime candidate for the chop. –Hajor

Okee-dokee. New map is up. File is now in .png format (which is what it should've been all along). I made the city labels a bit larger than what I normally use (14pt vs. 12pt) so that they should still be readable shrunk at 300px. In your preferences, there's an option for "Your Nickname (for signatures)". This is what gets displayed at: [[User:RadicalBender|RIGHTHERE]]. All I did was change it from "RadicalBender" to "R<small>ADICAL</small>B<small>ENDER</small>" and that makes it in drop caps. Plus I added the little star for a link back to my talk page. So, my full information in that field is "R<small>ADICAL</small>B<small>ENDER</small>]][[User talk:RadicalBender|<small>★</small>"

deletion of graffiti

RB, when you delete crap like "For free poop call..." you might want to trim the edit summary a bit. Y'know, so as to avoid calling attention to the stuff you're deleting. When I delete non-article stuff, I simply say "removing graffiti" in the edit summary. I think it provides even LESS of a provocation to vandals this way... Please stop messing up Danzig. The page shall be a redirect, as already discussed at Talk:Gdansk with archives. This obscure band and unknown people does not justify making so an important city name a disambiguation. Neither should Washington, Berlin or Warsaw be disambigs. Hello just to give a correction. That debate with RL was about fikri's footer on those pages, and beyond that, having page content in footer. The latest arguments presented there had changed my mind about those issue, and as such, went back to work on a pure nav series.

I find it quite usefull when working on those pages, and if size is a problem it could be shrunk a lot just leaving the designations. I had also hoped it could be standard for other airforces. The hard-coding was so in the future some categories could be 'shrunk' in the usual fashion you see in other series (further cutting back on its size). Greyengine5 16:47, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Your edit to WNBA

Why shouldn't it be a dis-ambiguation page?? Suppose someone wants to create an article for WNBA-AM and is totally unaware that WNBA re-directs. There is a good advantage of a dis-ambiguation page in the case of someone wanting to do this. 66.245.85.1 15:01, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Even if they want to do that, the radio station is not as important as the basketball league. Because this is the case, WNBA should point to the primary article and then an article for WNBA-AM could be mentioned at the top of the Women's National Basketball Association article. Dragonbal Manga

Did we ever come to an agreement over whether or not there was a "Dragon Ball Z" manga for the purposes of the list of manga? (see the related discussion). I agree with you that there is a manga called "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" in the US. There is a manga called "ドラゴンボール" in Japan, but there is no manga called "ドラゴンボールＺ" in Japan and therefore "Dragon Ball Z" doesn't count as a manga for the purposes of the list. (A better question is why it bothers me that it's a distinction... and that I would care enough to ask about it twice... maybe I need to find a new hobby...) Jrp 21:06, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Escort carrier decommissioning dates

There are some dates that you have used for the escort carrier decommissionings in the infoboxes that do not have an obvious source. For example, with the USS Breton you list the decommissioning date as 3 July 1946. That cannot be the RN decommisioning date because by that time the USN had custody of the ship, but the DANFS entry doesn't say about the USN decommisioning date either. I can't remember where I got the date, but finding any accurate dates seems to be impossible sometimes. Looking online again, the date seems to be the date the ship was struck rather than decommissioned, but probably some site listed it as both. Honestly, I'm not sure. I've been using the DANFS dates, and where possible the Naval Vessel Register dates. Uboat.net also has dates which seem to coincide with sources like that. As for finding the original dates being impossible, I would think that paper copies of the NVR from the time concerned would contain the answer. The database onine isn't anywhere near complete but it and its antecedents have been the place of record for USN ships for a long time. Failing that the original deck logs of the ship would contain the answer, since they would stop upon decommisioning after all. However, since that would mean a trip to either the Naval Historical Center or NARA I can't see that being particularly practical. David Newton 20:02, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Can you do me a favor when you get a chance. I struggled along with the picture of the CWS Bracket over the run of the Series. There are a lot of previous versions and reverts, can you go ahead and delete the non-relevent versions so they won't take up storage place? Baseball categories

Are all these categories (one for each year's All-Star team) really necessary? It seems to me that most major league players could probably do quite well with just one or two categories organized by position; even a category for each team seems awkward to me. Optimally, as an alternative, there would be a page for each year's All-Star Game, linked to the players' pages. It's just that I can see the categories getting to be too much. (Some players would have 15 to 20 categories for All-Star teams, another few for teams, potentially others for awards, plus those for positions.) MisfitToys 02:57, Jul 15, 2004 (UTC)
