needs to move to Installment plan? - Stoph 06:47, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

should not merge articles[edit]

i would not suggest merging 'installment plan' with 'hire purchase' as the latter seems to be an exclusively british term...

Yeah, others said the same thing and that they are different enough, but I forgot to take the merge notice off. Now the articles should be written so they are aware of each other and cover the similarities and differences. Thanks for the reminder - Taxman Talk 19:36, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

I'd agree with a merger, there's no reason the concept can't be explained in universal terms. Anyone looking for specific legal advice could do better than Wikipedia. There's actually a number of pages that should probably be merged together, I'm looking for them now and will post merger tags when I'm done. Ewlyahoocom 18:44, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should be merged. The only difference is in American or British terminology, which difference is not enough to merit a separate article. Use a redirect.--Anthony.bradbury 22:46, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've merged Installment plan to Hire purchase. Quarl (talk) 2007-02-26 00:44Z

Lawaway[edit]

I've redirected Layaway to this page, since its the most closely related concept, the only difference in the case of Layaway is the store retains the merchandise until its been paid off. Ewlyahoocom 18:44, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Layaway[edit]

You are absolutely right about that, I would say by definition "Installment Plan" is more closely related to mortgage or auto loans than anything. Lay away is nothing near a loan or credit, other than the fact that some buisnesses may require the customer to pay a fee or deposit. No credit is extended to the customer, only stock space.M jurrens 13:56, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
