" Change Business is the activity of making one's living or making money by producing or buying and selling products (such as goods and services).[1][2][need quotation to verify][3][4] Simply put, it is "any activity or enterprise entered into for profit. It does not mean it is a company, a corporation, partnership, or have any such formal organization, but it can range from a street peddler to General Motors."[5]

To

Business is an organised effort by individuals to produce goods and services to sell these goods and services in a market place and to reap some reward for this effort. Business activities include production and distribution of goods and services which can satisfy human wants. Thus, it embraces industry, trade and other activities like banking, transport, insurance and warehousing which facilitates production and distribution of goods and services." Limited liability company appears twice?[edit]

Within the "forms" section, limited liability company/companies appears twice. Someone might want to unify the wording here. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 23:39, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Commerce into Business[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
To not merge, on the grounds that commerce is an important subtopic of business warranting separate coverage. Klbrain (talk) 08:11, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Same activity. MoJieCPD (talk) 05:46, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

support. I consider the former as a fancy name for the latter. DMBanks1 (talk) 17:35, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Strong oppose. Commerce is not business, but a specific part of it. Whereas manufacturing or production represents the supply side of business, commerce represents the demand side of business. Business is the production and distribution of goods and services to make profit. Commerce is the part of business which specifically deals with all the activities related to the distribution of goods and services produced and make a business transaction happen between a buyer and a seller. The actual transaction of goods and services is called trade, but the scope of commerce is much bigger than trade, as it includes not only trade, but banking, insurance, logistics, communication, transportation, marketing, warehousing, agency and all other economic activities related to distribution which facilitate trade. Not only that. Commerce is usually related to not individual or small scale transactions, but it is related to trade on a bigger scale, such as regional, national or international commerce. So business, commerce and trade are distinct concepts and thus they should have separate articles dedicated to them. What needs to be done is to flesh out the current articles to their full potential. Merging is unnecessary. --Zaheen (talk) 12:12, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For example, universities around the world award Bachelor of Commerce degrees, where the programs typically include topics such as: accounting, actuarial studies (Insurance), economics, finance, commercial law, management, marketing, decision making, organizational behavior and business communication. Bachelor of Business degrees are more broad-spectrum, gives a global overview of running a business from the management side. Commerce degrees are more technical and narrowly focused, as they should be. --Zaheen (talk) 12:45, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Another distinction can be seen in the titles of ministries around the world. In most cases, a government has a commerce (or trade) minister (distribution side of national level business activities) and an industry minister (production side of business). Usually there is no business minister or economy minister. --Zaheen (talk) 12:54, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. While they are synonyms in ordinary usage, "business" and "commerce" mean very different things in universities JQ (talk) 07:03, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Better lead image?[edit]

User:Lokys dar Vienas, you've said that the current image is horrible and should be replaced with better one(s). Well then, should we make a gallery of images that shows small and big businesses? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 16:38, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Images serve for better understanding of the article and illustrate statements from the article. We have zillions of businesses. Any cherry-picking of some of them would amount to free advertising in Wikipedia. We need to think of an image that illustrated the concept of business, not just some particular company. Lokys dar Vienas (talk) 19:01, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, how should we do it then? The previous picture has no brand names and such. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 01:33, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why would you want to do anything now? WP:THEREISNODEADLINE. Maybe someone later thinks of something smart. The previous picture was contributing nothing to understanding what business is. Lokys dar Vienas (talk) 01:53, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In this phrase:

Corporations, in contrast with sole proprietors and partnerships, are a separate legal entity

please change "a separate legal entity" to "separate legal entities", since the sentence is talking about "Corporations" and "are", not "Corporation" and "is". 123.51.107.94 (talk) 23:58, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
