Initial cleanup[edit]

There's a bit of cleanup on the initial text. I found the external links by Googling for "dynamometer car"; all of the links I've added appear on the first page of links returned by Google. slambo 12:27, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Obsolete?[edit]

Dynamometer cars are by no means obsolete for testing of new vehicles at specialized test centres. Here is an example. David Jaša (talk) 06:52, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A few months ago I made a trip down to the IRM and this dynamometer car was running: http://www.irm.org/cgi-bin/rsearch.cgi?icwork=Chicago+Milwaukee+St.+Paul+&+Pacific+%28Milwaukee+Road%29=X5000

It's probably worth mentioning that car in the article, since it is operational (I got the pleasure of riding with the crew inside) although it isn't the prettiest, nowadays.

I got very good photographs and video of the interior and exterior. I'm not sure if I can share them without waving my rights to the photos. I could probably find information on that, but I'm too lazy to do it now.

I was also told that dynamometer cars are used in training new drivers, since they can be used to make sure the crew isn't straining the engine or anything else like that.
