Leeds United & What Luke Likes

I think that the Leeds United section may need editing to reflect the fact that the song itself is really about the Yorkshire Ripper rather than the football club

- I agree about the "likes" section needing citations. Someone very kindly added a link to an article about 'Leeds United', in which Haines admits to a "love/hate" attitude to the 70's. I'm no expert, but I suspect that this would also be his attitude to many of the people and subjects he sings about. Bless 'im.

I've added "as linked from Haines' Official Website" as evidence for some of Luke's likes/interests.

However, I'm still not sure about the "surely based" comment regarding Leeds United

I've removed the section What Luke Likes, as it does not conform with WP:ATT or WP:LIVING. Personal web pages are not allowed sources for biographies of living persons. There are a couple of points on the list that it may be useful to work into the article proper, provided there are sources to back them up:

• Falco (musician), in a BBC 6 Music radio interview on 16 November 2006 Haines stated that his work with Richard X on "Off My Rocker At The Art School Bop" was influenced by the late Austrian musician.
• David Peace, author of the Red Riding Quartet, GB84 and The Damned United. Haines and Peace performed a joint gig in 2006.

Birthdate & Mental State

I should point out that I'm not sure about all these dates: especially Haine's birthday. I'm also not 100% sure about the dates when the various albums were released. Also someone will have to keep this site up to date as regards Haine's ongoing projects. As I write the Auteurs are playing tonight (22 November 2004) in London, but I have no idea what the line up is, or what they will be playing. Haines never explicitly said he had a nervour breakdown, but throwing yourself out of a hotel 'for the insurance' doesn't sound like mentally balanced behaviour to me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.209.6.41 (talk • contribs) .

Haines in Culture

Sorry that someone felt me mentioning authors who I've seen and heard mentioning Haines was promotion for them. I was just trying to make point that Haines is an influence and I think a growing one, on cultural mood outside of music. Haine's evident self-belief (Future Generation) seems to be paying off. When you hear him being called one of the greatest living Englishmen on Radio 5 or hear his name mentioned at a literature festival as part of what inspires someone's subject matter, I think it shows his stature as an artist. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tobias vaughn (talk • contribs) .

General lack of objectivity

This article gives a long detailed account of a musical life without any reference to career success, either commercial or in chart terms. Forward plans from way back have subsequently been neither confirmed nor deleted – examples: “currently no news” in 2006; “he may play” in 2007; “the band would play” in 2009 – so it makes sense to take much of this self-serving marketing exercise with a pinch of salt. There are eight entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.

• ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
• LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
