  • Delete. Appears to fail the professor test. Samaritan 06:16, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • Abstain for now, waiting on further arguments/hopefully consensus on notability of world-ranked university debaters. Samaritan 21:37, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Strong keep. His competitive achievements make him far more notable than just the office of CUSID president. Not all presidents of CUSID are listed with their own entries, only those who were also competitive debaters of international note. Being one of the world's top debaters makes him notable to anyone researching debating and debaters, just like famous athletes. Fenster 10:16, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete: At present a perfect merge and redirect, but the article to which it should be merged does not exist yet, so I am left only with "delete," despite the worthiness of the figure. (Surprising that he's not more highly placed, with that pedigree.) Geogre 16:19, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete, non-notable, as above. Lord Bob 18:44, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. I think Fenster's argument has merit. Were he a footballer, he'd be in.Dr Zen 23:51, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I disagree. If he were a soccer player, the article would be "was president of the all-Canada college team." We don't usually put in college athletes. We ought not be putting in articles on professionals that say this little ("played center for the Bulls from 1992-1994 and was one of the best centers in the NBA" wouldn't be a lot). Geogre 01:13, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
But that's a reason to add -stub- to the article, not to delete it. There's obviously a lot more that can be added. Fenster 01:30, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Exactly. I take as my guide the item of policy that suggests that stubs are valid articles: "However, this does not mean the stub is not a legitimate article—it just needs to be expanded." I do not believe that an article's lack of content is a criterion for deletion but rather its lack of expandability.Dr Zen 03:16, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Expand it, so that I can change my vote. As for Fenster's argument, it seems like it can be expanded when the person has lived more and done more. That's the same thing as "has not achieved notability yet." I hope the person does. He hasn't yet. Geogre 06:29, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
OK, I spent exactly five minutes expanding it, and you can see that it begins to look much more like a traditional sporting / athletes bio. Fenster 18:16, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I appreciate the effort, but I think it's just gotten to the J. Random Professor thing now, so I can't change my vote. Geogre 15:49, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I don't know if that makes sense -- but I've removed any references his even BEING a professor to emphasize what is important about the article. -Fenster 21:24, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. It is so refreshing to see people investing their time to preserve factual, verifiable and noteworthy information here. [[User:Radman1|RaD Man (talk)]] 17:04, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Agree with Radman. Academic Challenger 01:01, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep this does seem notable, based on his achievements. - Ta bu shi da yu 02:11, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • delete non-notable. As for the "where he a footballer" argument, well college football in the US has a significant public following. Inter-varsity debating does not. Should we start listing people who win Model UN championships as well?AndyL 20:33, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)
As a matter of fact, intervarsity debating does have quite a following in many circles, especially in Britain and Australia. -- Fenster 00:22, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Can you point me to any fansites? Given that being President of the Oxford Union in and of itself is not considered notable enough to justify an article I don't see how being a competitor in debating competitions can be thought to be of great enough significance. We all think our particular clubs and hobbies are of earth shattering importance but please try to be objective about this. As an article this item makes a good entry on someone's resume and that's about it. AndyL 22:47, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
