Closing tasks[edit]

Er...I'm quite pleased with how Phosphorus cycle was improved. What is the protocol for closing a task—should I, as the nominator, close it? Or is it closed by the one whose desk it is on? And what does it mean to move it to "/closed"? — Knowledge Seeker 07:22, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Closed tasks procedure[edit]

I've created a page at Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/closed to list items we've finished with.

Closed tasks procedure (as I understand it):

  1. You've cleaned up an article that was placed on your desk. Hurrah! Edit the page at [[Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Thing you were working on]] to say what you've done and that you've completed it.
  2. Then move [[Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Thing you were working on]] to [[Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/closed/Thing you were working on]] (with its talk page if it has one).
  3. Remove the item from the list of open issues on the Taskforce page.
  4. Add the item to the list of closed items at Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/closed
  5. Remove the line {{Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Thing you were working on}} from your desk (you can create a 'closed' section on your desk if you want and put a link there to <nowiki>[[Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/closed/Thing you were working on]]).

If you've done all you can but there's more to do, leave the item on the open issues list and ask someone else to work on it (add it to their desk).

That seems about right to me. If we agree on this, we should probably move it to the Taskforce page or /closed. Tell me what you think. SteveW | Talk 13:55, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hang on - have I made this too complicated? Are we moving the page (taskforce/blah -> taskforce/closed/blah) or just the link? Moving the link makes more sense, doesn't it otherwise we'll end up with loads of pointless redirects. SteveW | Talk 14:17, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If you move the link, you need to make it an absolute link - the link "/bad art" on "/closed" leads to "/closed/bad art" - so you would need to make it the full name: "Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/bad art". I would rather do this page moving (particularly remembering that page moves will work faster in 1.5). r3m0t talk 16:55, Apr 20, 2005 (UTC)
I'm definitely confused now. The 'Bosnian crisis copyedit' and 'Phosphorus cycle accuracy' pages have been moved to '/closed/page title' but this isn't what we want is it? (C.f. closed VfD votes, e.g. Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Chad Talbot). I've changed the procedure above to reflect this, but can someone undo the mess I've made already? (sorry... My computer has decided to die to punish me, so I won't be around for a while till I get it fixed.) SteveW | Talk 12:34, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I really don't mind moving the page even though I know that isn't the process of WP:VfD, WP:RfA etc. We need to decide one way or another, fast. r3m0t talk 14:49, Apr 21, 2005 (UTC)

Closing Tasks[edit]

OK. I clearly am not sure what else to do here. I have cleaned up Space Interferometry Mission and it's done. I cleaned up the project page, moving it from open tasks to /closed, but I think I'm deficient in my knowledge of how to "move" a page. Some direction appreciated, and I'm afraid on this one you'll have to talk to me like I'm 12. · Katefan0(scribble) 16:58, Apr 22, 2005 (UTC)

Finalised (maybe) closed tasks procedure[edit]

I've put the simplified closed tasks procedure on the /closed page. There is no need for page moves, just a link to the item page at [[Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/article needing fixing]]. SteveW | Talk 20:54, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
