Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Manos

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In order to remain listed at Wikipedia:Requests for comment, at least two people need to show that they tried to resolve a dispute with this user and have failed. This must involve the same dispute, not different disputes. The persons complaining must provide evidence of their efforts, and each of them must certify it by signing this page with ~~~~. If this does not happen within 48 hours of the creation of this dispute page (which was: 14:37, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)), the page will be deleted. The current date and time is: 12:00, 19 April 2024 (UTC).

Statement of the dispute[edit]

This is a summary written by users who dispute this user's conduct. Users signing other sections should not edit here.

Description[edit]

Manos has been uploading tens of pictures to Wikipedia, without any hint of a copyright permission other than slapping the {{pd}} tag on them. Some of them bear obvious marks of being taken off commercial sites on the internet. When asked to supply more information on the pictures, he simply ignored the request. In fact, as of this writing, he has not made a single Talk page edit. He also uploaded apparently copyrighted text to Nikos Hatzikiriakos-Ghikas (text is of course easier to find on the net than pictures) and when asked whether he had permission to do so, again, ignored the question.

Since he has been so unresponsive, I suggest that if he does not respond here he should be treated as a simple vandal: blocked and admin-rolled back.

Evidence of disputed behavior[edit]

(provide diffs and links) This is all he does. Here are some examples:

  1. This picture is particularly telling, with the big travel-images.com text on it: [1].
  2. All other pictures he has uploaded.

Evidence of trying and failing to resolve the dispute[edit]

(provide diffs and links) Just visit his talk page: there's nothing there but requests for information on pictures and text.

  1. Thue tries to get info on Nikos Hatzikiriakos-Ghikas [2] and then complains he got no answer [3].
  2. Aris Katsaris tries to get info on a picture [4].
  3. Burgundavia tries to get info on a picture [5].
  4. Matthewmayer tries to get info on a picture [6].

  3. Matthewmayer 17:56, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC) I think he's just clueless about copyright issues. We have to get his attention somehow and he evidently doesn't seem to read or understand what's on his talk page; see also Image talk:Oakaolympics4.jpg

Sorry I am just clueless about copyright - I discovered wikipedia and went on overdrive. In fact I did not even realise they were pending messages addressed to me till now. Now what should i do? Gady in particular seems terribly upset - I beg you to forgive me. I promise model behavior from now on. Manos :

Don't worry about it, copyright is a very confusing business! Everyone will be happy if you go back and remove the dodgy pictures, I think they were just concerned you seemed to be ignoring messages. Keep an eye out for the orange box saying "you have new messages" :) You can work through contributions) and add {{ifd}} to each image that needs deleting (Images For Deletion). You'll also need to remove the image code from the article pages. I'm sure people will help out if you mention it on your talk page. If you want some copyright-OK photos of Greece for the 'pedia, you are very welcome to use any of the photos on my website [7], which I took myself and release under GFDL. I really have nothing to add to what Matthewmayer said. I really should have realized you were just clueless rather than jump into conclusions and suggest harsh measures. I apologize. Don't worry about it, and remember: almost anything you find on the net is not usable in Wikipedia. Gady 03:51, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks all - I am deleting dodgy pics and placing some new ones I took myself. Thanks for the patience - manos
