Audio Rockumentaries?[edit]

Would audio documentaries also be rockumentaries? If so, The History of Rock & Roll and the Pop Chronicles should be included. DougHill (talk) 23:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of term[edit]

Removed the following from the article:

I am not sure what the etiqutte for pointing out inaccuracies is - but I believe this should be "Rocumentary"

The term is spelt "Rockumentary" it the film "This Is Spinal Tap" in which the term was coined, so this is incorrect. 88.110.21.19 13:48, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know where "Rockumentary" was first used? I seem to recall hearing the The History of Rock & Roll using describe itself. (But it's been a long time since I heard that, so I'm not sure.) This would have been before This is Spinal Tap which is mentioned on the page. If that is the origin of the term, then I think audio documentaries should be rockumentaries.DougHill (talk) 23:57, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"The History of Rock & Roll, this first-ever 'Rockumentary'"[1] and "The History of Rock and Roll ... Introduced as a KHJ Rockumentary"[2] confirm that the History of Rock and Roll did call itself a rockumentary, so I'll add this to the page.DougHill (talk) 00:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concert films?[edit]

Would many concert films belong to this genre as well, then? e.g. Stop Making Sense, Woodstock, Rattle and Hum etc.? Or do they mean documentaries not about specific groups but about several groups, as representative of rock and roll in general? They can't mean that, there aren't that many? Koyaanis Qatsi

I started a section on the usage of the term. The term seems to have first been used about a radio documentary on all of rock and roll, and later used for multiple artist films.DougHill (talk) 20:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, especially since there is no mention of "Rockumentary Podcast" on the "athcast" site that I can find. MucasPlug (talk) 18:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I moved this section down the page, added a citation, and requested more citations. If no one finds these citations, this part (or the uncited parts) should be deleted.DougHill (talk) 20:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neologism?[edit]

The introduction defines this as a neologism, but can this still be right when the term was coined more than 40 years ago now? What it definitely is, is a Portmanteau word, which I think is better as a defining feature. Lonegroover (talk) 09:56, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No comments received on the above, so I've made the edit. Lonegroover (talk) 13:03, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just looking at the neologism page, there are ones there from the 30s, so I don't think the time disqualifies it. Portmanteau is definite the more descriptive term though, so according to Strunk and White we should use it! Although neologism might also be a nice addition.
