I have rewritten this page to achieve what I hope is a more generalised entry. The last section on the politics is a controversial topic because it deals with the agendas First World government promote when giving aid. I hope that I have maintained sufficient neutrality.

merge with Altruism[edit]

Do not merge - there is sufficient distinction between the overarching principle of altruism and the specific volunteerism to keep them separate articles. Max robitzsch 12:19, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

please don't merge as 'altruism and 'volunteerism' are really two separate things who share some similarities

Please don't merge, I agree that altruism and volunteerism are very different. Altruism is specific to the individual, volunteerism is a community based sensability. CeruleanShine 16:33, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism[edit]

"There is also growing concern about the effects of neoliberalism in the field of volunteerism, as witnessed by the increasing influence of corporations on the social programming of nonprofit community organisations, particularly through youth work."

Shouldn't this be over in the right-wing conspiracy article? In fact, maybe the whole section. Remember, folks, "A good deed never goes unpunished." is a quip not a truism! JimScott (talk) 15:42, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising[edit]

This article is not the place for advertising volunteer opportunities. I have removed those links from /*External links*/ in accordance with the Manual of Style, especially Wikipedia:External links. --Bejnar (talk) 16:50, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto - cleaned up again. JCutter (talk) 10:53, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
