Doubtful statement[edit]

"Approximately ten percent of the current Mexican-American population are descended from the early colonial settlers who became U.S. citizens in 1848 via the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican–American War.[10]"

This is very doubtful.

Checking the Encarta reference, it has an obvious logical error omitting 19th century migration completely.

About 90 percent of the Mexican American population today can be traced to emigration from impoverished rural regions of northern Mexico during the 20th century. The rest trace their roots to 17th- and 18th-century colonists

Can this be replaced with an accurate estimate or deleted? --JWB (talk) 19:17, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Critical Race Theorist?[edit]

Really? Do I need to say more? This is not supposed to be a page to promote a political agenda. Even in the paragraphs before the subsections you site a critical race theorist and include way too much unnecessary information. If you look at any other page on immigrant groups in the intro paragraphs all it says is how many there are, when they came, why they came, and where they live mostly. People don’t come to Wikipedia to read another article about racism. People just want to know about a topic and Wikipedia has an obligation to report brief, accurate, unbiased information on searched topics. 69.126.152.193 (talk) 18:04, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The history of this topic is tightly wound up in racism. You can't speak of this subject with honesty without discussing the racist aspects of it. We're not going to extract the racial discussion of this article as it would undermine it. Sorry. --Hammersoft (talk) 23:06, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect citation[edit]

The article states "The counties with the largest Mexican population are Los Angeles County, Harris County, Cook County and Dallas County. The metropolitan areas with the largest Mexican population is Greater Los Angeles, the Chicago metropolitan area, Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and Greater Houston."

However, the cited link is not referring to all Mexican Americans/Americans of Mexican heritage like the article overall is, but rather to specifically Mexican-born immigrants to the US. The cited article specifies that as such: "The four counties with the most Mexican immigrants were Los Angeles County in California, Harris County in Texas, Cook County in Illinois, and Dallas County in Texas."

I can edit the article to specify that those statistics are only immigrants, but wanted to confirm here that that was the best course of action. Kaemw (talk) 04:22, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
