Jewishness[edit]

She's not Jewish. Caprice Bourret went to Bishop Amat Catholic High School in La Puente, CA (which is something Jewish kids in L.A. DON'T do). BTW, she graduated in 1990, if that's any indication of her "real" age.76.21.37.176 07:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

She claims to be an observant Jew. She says she has been a follower of Judaism for the past 13 years. Her mother is Jewish. That is definitely sufficient for her to be regarded as currently Jewish, even if, many years ago, she did go to a Catholic school. Werdnawerdna (talk) 21:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC

If her mother is Jewish, then according to Jewish law she is Jewish. I actually came to this article to find out if she was Jewish, as she just appeared on TV and had a large star of david in her kitchen, so I was curious 92.237.144.148 (talk) 21:49, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Caprice is Jewish, there are nemerous articles on the internet about it. Including an interview in the Jewish Cronicle which I have just added to her page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Janesands (talkcontribs) 13:22, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life section[edit]

Extended content

When she arrived in London she posed as a celebrity "It" girl from a rich American family for a documentary series called Filthy Rich: Daddy's Girls, in which it was claimed she came from a moneyed family who lived in a security-screened Hollywood mansion. In fact, she was raised - mainly by her single mother - in a three-bedroom bungalow in an ordinary suburb of Los Angeles called Hacienda Heights. Her father was a used-car salesman who split from her mother when Caprice was five. Penniless Valerie Bourret was arrested on charges of credit-card theft; she had hatched a plot to defraud retailers with a young male accomplice and was given three years' probation.[1]

In August 2003 21 year old Alexander Davis, heir to a £4bn oil fortune, asked Caprice to marry him. At the time Caprice was claiming to be 28, but she was later exposed as being more than ten years older than Davis. Davis' mother was quoted as saying "Alex needs to be studying not hanging out with a woman old enough to be his mother", and threatening to cut him out any legacy.[2] They split up less than two years later.

Caprice then sued a Sunday newspaper for accusing her of being a 'gold digger', and claimed during the court hearings that the boy's mother wrote 'Caprice is perfect for my son. I look forward to planning their wedding'. Caprice was later forced to hand the money back when it was discovered she had used a forged letter to win the case.[1] It is unclear whether she repaid the money by taking it back from the charities she had stated she'd given the libel damages to.

She had a relationship with former Arsenal and England footballer Tony Adams and a brief relationship with England cricketer Kevin Pietersen.[3]

In August 2006, defended by Nick Freeman, Caprice was banned from driving for one year and ordered to pay £2,500 costs when she was found guilty of drink-driving. She was held in police cells for several hours after she allegedly argued with officers who ordered her to take a breath test. "Do you know who I am?" she is said to have protested. Freeman claimed the model had a urinary tract infection, and that she was affected by the drugs she was taking.[4] She owns two homes in South Africa, one in Cape Town's Camps Bay and another in Johannesburg's Bryanston.[5]

In 2006 she was exposed for her false claim to have been 'Miss Teen California' when the organiser of the competition stated he'd never heard of her. MTC organiser Frank Lameira stated 'Caprice whomever never won Miss Teenage California and never was a participant in Miss Teenage California. The Miss Teenage California Pageant was created by myself in 1980. Perhaps she won another state teen pageant in California prior to 1980 that had a similar title, but I can assure you the Miss Teenage California's first pageant was in 1980.' He goes on to point enquirers to his website of previous winners.[6] Caprice appears to have claimed it was some sort of mistake, however she has made the false claim in interviews such as one in Stuff Magazine published 19th February 2003 (which also includes the false claim that she is 27) with quotations such as "I was Miss Teen California. I had to do parades and openings and wave and, you know, the things that a beauty queen does. God, I’m glad those days are over."[7]

The above was removed from the article. There may be some material there that could be added back. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:20, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It should all go back in - the entire section was removed en masse by a new editor who is one of three or more new SPA editors here who have done little else but edit this entry in what appears to be a whitewashing exercise by either a PR company or (presupposing the 'bycaprice' editor is legit) the subject of the article. This is supposed to be a biographical article, not a PR piece, and someone close to this person has clearly decided to try and turn it into a puff-piece. 94.172.219.182 (talk) 20:06, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently there is a legal issue here.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Janesands (talkcontribs) 13:29, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been bold. All of it appears well-sourced, and without it the article reads like a thinly-veiled PR piece.

And it has been deleted again. I can’t figure out from the history page when and by whom.—ukexpat (talk) 13:47, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Music[edit]

In her music work, should be listed her album, Platinums of a Rapper, from 2001. There's plenty of sources in the net, but one is here: http://www.billboard.com/album/caprice/platinums-of-a-rapper/505394#/album/caprice/platinums-of-a-rapper/505394. 85.217.45.181 (talk) 09:08, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An American British Supermodel?[edit]

What does that even mean? Is she American? Is she British? Both? And supermodel? Really? Sourced to what looks like a PR puff interview on a business "magazine" site.

Supermodel in particular must certainly be someone's opinion, since it's a term requiring a value judgement. Do we agree with that judgement? Should we even use the term to describe someone when it is unclear who it "includes", when model is just a matter of fact description, with no built in judgements, and so is much preferable IMO, regardless of whether one agrees with the supermodel "categorisation"?

I'm not editing the article right now, because I'd like feedback on what it should say here, at the very least so that we have a discussion on this talk page to which we can refer the editors who like to "play" with the lede.

I think probably it should be altered to "American born, British model" - but I'd like some feedback on that, if possible Begoontalk 23:40, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, well, in the absence of objections, I'll be WP:BOLD and edit the article now. Any ideas for improvement would be very welcome. Thanks. Begoontalk 02:07, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

Caprice wasn't born in Whittier. Changes were made on her page. Following are the links: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0100153/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 http://uk.askmen.com/celebs/women/singer/25_caprice_bourret.html

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Carolinebycaprice (talkcontribs)

Thanks. This isn't controversial stuff you altered, unless someone challenges it, so it seems fine.
For future reference, though, we don't regard IMDB as a reliable source, because anyone can edit that site without verification. NNDB which you also added is better, because there is apparently some fact checking done there - but it's largely a "tertiary" source, so mainstream news outlets, published books etc are preferred if possible. You can look here to see what are considered reliable sources, for any future proposed edits: WP:RS
You didn't add the askmen.com source to the article, so I've used it to replace the IMDB one. Begoontalk 12:36, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mother's surname[edit]

Caprice's mother's maiden name was Pion but she married Dale Bourret so her current surname is Bourret Links: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-193587/Caprice-marry-millionaire.html http://news.sky.com/story/206782/caprice-to-marry-21-year-old The text is the same but the sources are reliable. Early Life[edit]

Hello,

Could we please change the description of Caprice's mother from Jewish to American? She is not religious at all and that would be misleading to represent her with this word. Until the proof can be given. Here is the proof that she's American: http://www.californiabirthindex.org/birth/valerie_ann_pion_born_1949_3976995

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carolinebycaprice (talkcontribs) 08:35, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think it's fine as it is. It's not mentioned in the WP:LEAD, but touched on in the "Early Life" section. That's a fairly common article structure and content - see Paula Abdul, for an example of how it's covered exactly the same as here. The matter of her Jewishness is not, I believe, in dispute, and the 'extent' of her 'religiousness' is not discussed at all, so I can't really see the issue unless you can explain further. Begoontalk 01:11, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't explained further, but another discussion elsewhere reminded me of this. The sources don't demonstrate that Valerie self identifies as Jewish, and it's not discussed other than as an adjective in the phrase "Jewish mother". Per WP:BLP that's not really enough to justify inclusion if it's been objected to, so I've removed the word. Begoontalk 12:01, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Recent updates[edit]

I removed the "Acting" and "Reality TV" tables.

They consisted of duplication of prose content already included elsewhere in the article, plus some fluff, mainly "guest" appearances, interviews, or "one episode" notes.

There are prose sections which already contain references to notable items which the tables contained, and duplication of this, plus puffing out with appearances on chat shows, "reality" shows and the like to give each time the lady appeared on a TV screen anywhere its own important "table row" made the article look more like an agent's resumé than an encyclopedia article. There's been a lot of that here over time, from SPAs mainly, such as adding tables of "speeches she gave somewhere" in the past.

There was also an outstanding tag in the External links section, saying "too many links", and when I looked at that, the excess links were just links to newspaper articles, with nothing particularly notable, or any justification, really, and not related to article content, so I removed them, per WP:EL

I think this, coupled with the removals of the large amount of badly sourced tabloid gossip which have also, and quite rightly been done, leaves a much more balanced and proportionate article. Begoontalk 18:11, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
