Gulf states[edit]

My objection was that you cannot move pages just by cutting and pasting them. According to the GFDL a page's history must be preserved and thus the "move page" function must be utilized. This would require the current redirect to be deleted. You can ask for this to be done at Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion. - SimonP 04:52, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

UN stuff[edit]

Go here to see response. I also moved UN references to this area. BrainMafia (talk)

This is what I added to the discussion page. Thought you might also be interested.

Please note that what follows by a M. Gonabady is not accurate. None of the organizations that he names have a "rightful nomenclature". You are welcome to visit the site of any of the organizations and do a search on "Arabian Gulf". You will see there are hundreds of official documents using the name. Here is an example: www.un.org/documents/ga/docs/56/a56124a1.pdf The document in the example is a Note by the Secretary-General and distributed by the General Assembly on 26 July 201. It has numerous references to the "Arabian Gulf" and NON to "Persian Gulf"! It is irrelevant how, why, or for how long some Arab people started using the name "Arabian Gulf". The fact is that there are enough people that know this Gulf by that name alone that would warrant it's inclusion in all reference books as a secondary name. Exactly as National Geographic has done. Also, as an Iranian, I am ashamed of some of the things that my nationalist (read racist) fellow countrymen have done to deal with this issue. I apologize for it.
Here are a couple of more examples that use "Arabian Gulf".

Hi[edit]

Hi Kaveh, I see you are very active in all Iranian matters here on Wikipedia. After some absence i am back to editing. I am looking forward to a fruitful collaberation. Refdoc 23:51, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Iran maps[edit]

Excellent! I will try to get them done fully (and add the new provinces on all the other locator maps at some point) at some point, but quite out of practice with mapmaking. I've also the new Afghan provinces to do. Morwen - Talk 16:18, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Iran-geo-stub[edit]

Dear Kaveh - I notice that you changed the icon used for Iran-geo-stub. I have reverted it to the former image. The reason is simple - to some eyes, the use of part of a flag, or a shaped flag, containing holy text might be construed as being desecration. Given your name and interests, it is likely that you will have a better view of this that I have, and if you feel that there is no problem I am willing to have the image re-reverted, but I thought you should be aware of why I have done this. Grutness|hello? 05:56, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Fair enough - I'll bow to your better knowledge. I hadn't noticed that it was the earlier version of the flag. Feel free to re-revert! Grutness|hello?

Hi![edit]

Are you from Iran? Shia?

Have a good day :)

--Striver 13:51, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Did you make this or did you find it off the 'net? The reason why I'm asking is that your image has been chosen as part of the {{Iran-geo-stub}}, and for such a widely used stub the image ideally must be "free". If you did make it, could you tag it under the GFDL, or release it into the public domain? If not, well could you make an image like this and release it into the public domain/license it under the GFDL? Thanks. --Bash 01:33, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Newroz[edit]

Kaveh, you just unilateraly deleted an article here, including its disucssion. This is a very bad behavior, when we discuss the article hedre. May I suggest you to seek a settlement we can agree on and participate in the talk rather than destructing. If such destruction occurs again I am afraid we will have to protect the page. Hope it wil not be necesary. Hope to corporate with you. Bertilvidet 10:15, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, I can see that you didn't delete the page as I initially thought. Bertilvidet 11:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear kaveh, Even the spelling of the Kurdish festival of Newroz is an important part of the Kurdish identity [1] in many parts of Kurdistan such as in Turkey which ever has been censored. I sure provide many sources an Newroz and will expand the Kurdish article. Eide shoma ham mobarak!Diyako Talk + 20:12, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There exist Kurdish researchers who believe that Norooz is a Persian celebration and it has been taken by Kurds just for political reasons. Needless to say that those Kurdish researchers also hate Persians and so they are not Persian POV. --Sina Kardar20:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why you deleted Bernard Lewis 'predicions'[edit]

I don't understand, Why you deleted Bernard Lewis 'predicions'. Every body must know his bias towards Iran. Now, Please Look at that articl and its talk page. --Pejman47 22:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Romney[edit]

Khatami is worse than Ahamdinejad. Ahamadinejad is not a mullah and thus has to go an extra mile to keep his position. They are the same. One is a pretender and the other is honest. You seem too informed to truly believe that Khatami is a "reformer."--07:46, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't follow your reasoning. How is what you believe, or what you hold that I believe, is relevant? Kaveh 07:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The last paragraph[edit]

Why did you put it back Kaveh jan? It's inaccurate and POV even if it's sourced, it simplifies Iran's position making it look as if all of Iran's claims are based on a single a map or that Iran is an expansionist state that claims all of Persian Gulf as her territory. --Azerbaijani 11:54, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed those claims so that it's more factual and less speculative now. Kaveh 12:03, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Khatami[edit]

The article on Mohammad Khatami seems to be under what I would like to call "kharabkaariye hooshmandaane" by User: Patchouli. Well actually it's not that "hooshmandaane" either because it cleary violates NPOV etc. etc. Anyway would you please take a look at the talk page and the recent edits made by Patchouli. Could you get involved to help prevent him from damaging the article? By the way, I really do try to "assume good faith" but look at one of his edits on the article Cyrus Cylinder [3]. Do you think he is intentionally targeting articles related to Iran? Barnetj 10:17, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about his intentions. But, his knowledge on Iran is clearly lacking. I'll try to help along. Kaveh 16:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the new article creating by Patchouli Mohammad Khatami's reforms! I'm going to file a complaint against Patchouli in ArbCom (Arbitration Comittee). It seems they are the only hope for stopping Patchouli's sabotage of middle east articles. I was wondering if you are willing (and have time) to help with presenting the case against him. Please let me know as soon as possible. thanks Barnetj 14:11, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I can't participate in a drawn out process in ArbCom. It is best just to reason with him. Good luck anyhow. Kaveh 06:13, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The image you've inserted in various articles has no historical significance, is created by a Wikipedia user, and contains sectarian messages. See Image vandalism. Kaveh 11:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I didn't create it or insert it, I just reverted your un-discussed changed. Talk:Zulfiqar would be a good place to start discussing the issue. Cuñado - Talk 18:02, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, now you know. Kaveh 20:12, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want changes that others oppose, the easiest route is to start a poll and request comment from others. I'm reverting back to the image that has been used for months. Cuñado - Talk 21:27, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
NPOV isn't up for discussion, sorry. Kaveh
NPOV has nothing to do with it. You haven't provided any evidence other than your opinion. Cuñado - Talk 21:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Evidence as to what? The image has no source, and has added religious messages. It is a simple matter of observation. Kaveh
You're not adding an alternative image that is of historical importance. When it comes down to it, it's just your opinion that it shouldn't be displayed with text. Cuñado - Talk 21:44, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We can remove the image all-together. The policy, however, is very clear: Image vandalism. Kaveh
Get over yourself, that policy has nothing to do with this debate. Stop throwing around policy pages that are unrelated. State the facts: you don't like it with writing, and I do. It's a difference of opinion, and there are ways to resolve conflict that don't involve reverting. Since you're the one trying to change a longstanding image, you have the responsibility to gain consensus. Cuñado - Talk 21:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Uploading provocative images, inserting political messages, making malicious animated GIFs, etc. Repeatedly uploading images with no source and/or license information after notification that such information is required may also constitute vandalism." Very clear in my opinion. Kaveh 21:59, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
em, I think you're misreading this in two ways. Image:Republicanlogo.svg is a political logo, but it's not considered vandalism. It's talking about using political statements as vandalism. The statement "Ali is the vicegerent of God" is not any kind of vandalism. And even if the policy outlawed any kind of political statements on wikipedia (which it doesn't), the writing is not political, it is religious, and it is a commonly used phrase in Shi`ah Islam. Cuñado - Talk 22:38, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The messages have clear political implications. I suggest you acquire a transcript of the exchanges in the recent execution of the former Iraqi dictator. It's as provocative as having, on every Christian-related article, an arbitrary picture of Jesus with the words "He is God" above it. Please spare me the details about Shi'a Islam, you're preaching to the choir. Kaveh

Two Articles in need of your attention[edit]

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Any contributions would greatly appreciate – please add your comments, whether you agree with the deletion, or otherwise to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turco-Persian as well as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turko-Persian Tradition. Bā Sepās Surena 02:52, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your diligence. But advertising your nominations is contrary to Wikipedia traditions. Kaveh

Unspecified source for Image:Vancouver_ib.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Vancouver_ib.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 10:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is VERY important to have the exact coordinates given by the Iranians. (I'm not sure but I think you inserted some, although not clearly sourced?) The UK MOD had pins on the map, but no coordinates. Can you get the two sets that are claimed locked in here please!? I've been trying to put this all on Wikimapia, http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=29851960&x=48727798&z=11&l=0&m=a&v=2 then maybe make a map for the article. Thank you. --truthdowser 20:33, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Iranian side has not acknowledged reporting two different locations. The only one known is 29°51′9″N 48°45′11″E, as written on the map that was shown during the briefing. See Image:Brit_iran_coor.jpg. Kaveh 21:23, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much, I've updated the map info at the above link. (..and thanks for getting that info with linked photo into the article.) --truthdowser 22:45, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
...and have now added a Wikimapia "External Link" to the article/entry. (...although the wording is perhaps not the best.)
Anyway, thanks again.truthdowser 05:10, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Khatami's picture[edit]

Would you please explain why you removed the previous picture from Khatami's page? The image had a creative commons license which is a proper license for use on wikipedia. So why did you insist on replacing it? Barnetj 14:26, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Brit iran coor.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Brit iran coor.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Fair use rationale for Image:C130-crash.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:C130-crash.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
