Marquette and Joliet Exploration - improperly sourced and presented, verging on plagiarism[edit]

Plagiarism is too strong a charge, but it is not at all clear that the section is copied verbatim from Carpenter, George W. 1934. History of Calhoun County. Jerseyville IL: Democrat Print. Proper presentation would clarify that the claims in the section are Carpenter's, not the article author's measured amalgam of current knowledge, nor any guarantee that the claims are generally accepted by those knowledgeable on the topic or otherwise to be taken as established knowledge. Readers are given no indication, for example, if this assertion reflects up-to-date knowledge: "There can be little doubt that it was at this place that the Marquette-Joliet party stopped for the night." The section should at least be re-cast in accordance with basic Wikipedia norms [[1]] Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 17:49, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
