For now I'm making all the ships alpabetical by name. Listing by type is complicated by multiple ships having the same name, will have to figure out something eventually though. Stan Shebs 23:26 Feb 16, 2003 (UTC)

Indicate United Kingdom?[edit]

I recognized that Royal Navy probably referred to the United Kingdom. Finding the category does indicates "Ships of the United Kingdom", but it isn't stated in the lists of ships I've looked at. Is it that obvious to English speakers that it isn't needed, or should/can it be added? Please be kind, I'm new to Wikipedia!

Hello - I wanted to pass along to you a very comprehensive list generated by Gordon Smith of Naval-History.net, in part from data gathered by the Old Weather project. Here is the link: http://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishShips-Dittmar3WarshipsA.htm If you have any questions, please feel free to visit the Old Weather forum site - Oldweather.org. dabs on the Forward and Satellite for 1863[edit]

Please see Lamalcha. There is one comment on HMS Forward that says it was sold in 1869...that would have to have been after it was bought back from the Lamalcha, who seized it and sold it in 1863 or '64. As that article says, which I got from a book called The Lamalcha War which I browsed in a BC Ferries bookshop one day, this was supposedly the only major defeat of the Royal Navy from the Crimean War to the end of the 19th C, maybe to the start of the Great War. I'm wondering if there are any Royal Navy histories on this incident that might augment that page; a Lamalcha War article may be split off from it, so the more detail the better.Skookum1 (talk) 07:53, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
