Table[edit]

I remove the life information when I redid the page because it just seemed unnecessary. Also, since each individual governor's page has that information, why is it needed here? I hope the page is more clear, although I think that some of the superscripts are off (shouldn't John I. Guion has a (c) not an (a) at the end?). I will check the previous table against each of the individual pages to see if (I hope not) this page had more accurate life and death information. --Ricky81682 07:23, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Table for each governor[edit]

I guess this would be the place to mention it. For each governor, I added a table so that one could follow the history of the governorship in order. I would like some input regarding the tables. Is there any problems or any suggestions regarding the style? --Ricky81682 (talk) 01:56, Dec 6, 2004 (UTC)

Table for each governor, reply[edit]

I think the listing looks better the original way I had it with tables. The current format just looks less organized. Just my opinion... :) -- User:Jpcarver

Is Allain dead?[edit]

Is this part of the article correct? I can't find any mention of his death anywhere else, including his wikipedia page: As of January 2012, five former governors are alive, the oldest being William Winter (1980–1984, born 1923). The most recent governor to die was William Allain(1984-1988)on June 26, 2013. The most recently serving governor to die was Kirk Fordice, who left office on January 11 of 2000 and died on September 7, 2004 at the age of seventy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.130.5 (talk) 22:48, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Where's the 57th Governor??[edit]

There's something fishing, going on. GoodDay (talk) 15:49, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've check the internet head to toe, including Mississippi's official website. I can't seem to find an Mississippi Governors list, to figure out the missing 57. GoodDay (talk) 17:17, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger[edit]

See Talk:List of Governors of Mississippi Territory for merger proposal and relevant discussion. MB298 (talk) 22:02, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Numbering of Fielding Wright[edit]

Just a heads up. Governor Fielding Wright is numbered 'twice' (49th & 50th), because he was an un-elected Governor (1946-48) when he finished his predecessor's term & then an elected Governor (1948-52) when he served his own full term. Mississippi, is the only state that does this type of counting. GoodDay (talk) 00:54, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 May 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page at this time, per the discussion below, although it appears that there is support for creating separate articles for the offices listed below. Dekimasuよ! 19:14, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of Governors of MississippiGovernor of Mississippi – Currently Governor of Mississippi redirects here, but I think it makes sense to swap the 2 pages. Currently the page includes information on the office and a list. It makes sense for a page on the office to have a list, but less sense for the list to have historical information on the office. Also, it is shorter and more succinct, and gets the same info across. It's also a more likely search term, unless someone is on WP a lot and knows to include "list of"... I am having a hard time explaining my reasoning, but I think it just makes more sense! ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 14:34, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And Governor of Colorado and Governor of Massachusetts are already in that name format, and the rest of the states have separate pages for "Governor of XXX" and "List of Governors of XXX". Paintspot Infez (talk) 15:14, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Paintspot: - I would support those moves as well, assuming they all have substantial content regarding the position and not just a bare list. Are you supporting or opposing the move, however? ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 15:30, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm neutral at the moment, but I'm a firm believer that these pages should all have consistent titles. Either these 22 pages should move to "Governor of XXX", OR Colorado and Massachusetts' pages should move to "List of Governors of XXX". Paintspot Infez (talk) 15:31, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, and support all of those other moves as well. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 15:49, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. These are clearly lists and the title should reflect that. Rreagan007 (talk) 17:37, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Rreagan007: - but they are very clearly more than just lists. And the leads introduce the articles as "The Governor of ____ is..." and are not introduced as being lists--‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 18:34, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When 90%+ of an article is the list, it's a list. I would encourage you and other editors to create an actual article at the "Governor of X" location. But these lists shouldn't be moved there. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:19, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Instead of moving these articles, there should be articles made - even if only stubs - for the offices. As for "clearly more than just lists," I disagree. They, ideally, contain only a list of people who have held the office, and the necessary information surrounding how one enters and exits said office. And not, as belongs in an article on the office itself, detailed information on the powers, compensation, residence, and history. Compare, for example, Governor of Hawaii with List of Governors of Hawaii. The first has a lot of info the second doesn't, and vice versa. As for "not introduced as being lists," we haven't done that here for a decade, it's long been against policy to open an article with "This is a list of governors." The article title is sufficient to introduce it as a list, or rather should be. In fact, this discussion has encouraged me to go and prune some extraneous info from the lists - we don't need their lists of powers, saying they're the governor is sufficient. --Golbez (talk) 18:52, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this. The lists shouldn't be moved. New articles should be created. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:20, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This seems like a reasonable solution. I would support this alternative as well. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 22:00, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Some of the entries such as List of Governors of Rhode Island are really just lists. I agree with User:Rreagan007 that new articles should be created when (or if) needed on a case-by-case basis, and I implore User:Golbez to hold off deleting material at least until this discussion runs its course in order to facilitate such action. —  AjaxSmack  22:02, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Territorial governors[edit]

The list needs to be amended with acting territorial governors. For example Cato West.[1] FloridaArmy (talk) 12:20, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page name[edit]

I think the page title should be Governor of Mississippi. It's not just a list and shorter naming is preferred. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:52, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
