Views on Collaborative Writing section

Hello, I am contemplating removing this section completely as it gives way too much attention to these two sources. Perhaps these sources could be included in another section, but as it stands there seems to be too much content devoted to these two sources. Untitled

I would like to spin off the concept of tandem writing from this collaborative writing article. Fiction that is written in a MU* environment or through reciprocal e-mail exchanges (as in alt.starfleet.rpg) has the notion of collaboration and recursivity, but it is more appropriately called "tandem" because the conjunction of work occurs in series rather than in parallel (like in a wiki). Regarding Section 1 (Evolution)

I think that the section is too much "based on" Microsoft applications (Microsoft SharePoint, etc.), and (this might only be my vffrgdfefffffjkjmm455y56uuu44444....b466 I did not want to edit this without peer review of my idea. I suggest the following changes:

• Replace the explicit item numbers with # characters, so the list items number automatically (see: List basics). It seems non-Wiki to have an explicitly numbered list.
• Move the parenthesized vendor-specific examples to nested bullet items by placing them after #* characters. Listing products from more than one vendor would yield the desired vendor-neutrality. If possible, replace the vendor-specific examples with links to Wikipedia articles that list many example.
• Link all the jargon terms to their Wikipedia articles, if any.
  • Generalize some jargon terms (e.g., replace "disk" with removable media).
• And of course remove the stray 6 character that appears to be an editing error.

How about something like this:

1. Exchanging file via removable media (sneakernet) or email
2. Shared file server
3. Revision control software providing check-in/out
   • List of revision control software
4. Portal applications
   • SharePoint
5. Wikis

Does recombinant text have a place here?

Can evolution proceed into the future? Can the species branch into 2? Maybe 5a-Wikis, and 5b recombinant text?

(Recombinant text is best described in project textbender.)

Or maybe under 'Practical approaches'? It seems to solve some of the problems/challenges listed there.

Anyway, I don't think it belongs under 'Similar and related concepts' (as now) because it is not merely related, it *is* collaborative. Nor under 'Examples' of writing projects, because it is not a writing project, but a writing *medium*.

collaboration or co-creation?

If one prefers research of norms to establish the acceptablility of new or expanded definations then collaboration equals journalism. Co-creation on the other hand/mind/heart, frees up the being involved to expand beyond conventional concepts. Is there room for this form of opinioned creative expression? Please expand this article

I would expect a page on collaborative writing on wikipedia to be more extensive, after all a wiki is also a collabarative writing tool

Also, regarding the writer who wanted to define collaboration differently than co-creation, I don't see the difference. The word collaboration obviously combines co- with -labor, just meaning working together. Time for a spring clean

Greetings! I think there is a set of articles here that need some solid work to bring them up to standard - we have a group ( Collaborative_authorship, collaborative editing, and collaborative fiction ) of articles that are either very short, repetitive, or just not up to Wikipedia standard - I'm willing to invest some time to make this work - are there any other active editors looking at these pages who would like to be involved? I'm posting this message on the three (currently) relevant pages. I like to be quite bold with these things and we can all play with the revert cycle with no ego. I'll give it a week in case there are lurking editors who want to get involved and do the discussion thing and will get stuck in. Pflat (talk) 09:52, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Merges

Expand sections I think that the sections "Types of collaborative writing" and "Authorship" need to be expanded upon. The "Types..." section has good info, but the different types only get a one sentence definition. Perhaps provide examples of how each type is used in a real-world setting. The "authorship" section is about 1-2 sentences, either add more info. to the section or delete the section because it is a bit out of place compared to the rest of the sections.Khamelia H.
