Hi and welcome to Wikipedia! Your enthusiasm for creating philatelic articles is most welcome. We have a few style standards that you should be aware of, for instance that titles (except the first char) should be lower case, so "List of birds on stamps" instead of "List of Birds on stamps" (links are case-sensitive). Similarly, category titles should be pluralized, thus Category:Lists of people on stamps not "list of people on stamps". It's also worthwhile to consider not splitting up a list until it gets long - we do this for people on stamps, and it makes sense for birds and fish, but I don't think there's ever been more than a couple hundred bonsai depicted on stamps, so a single list is sufficient. Finally, Fishes Taxonomy (Sharks) is somewhat redundant, because our "Tree of Life" articles such as Lamniformes already contain the hierarchy in the sidebar tables. Stan 03:53, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Hi Stan. Thanks for the tips.Really beeing so entusiastic about stamps I've found in Wikipedia a power way to put some of my knowledge forgetting sometimes some logical and basic principals in the way of presenting data. This and my inexperience beeing a new Wikipedia contributer needs of course some usefull advices.Really don't mind to categorized some of my lists such as Kionga and Zambezia as they really bellong now to Mozambique country. As for Kionga if you see stamps of Mozambique you will find Kionga, Lourenço Marques and others on that list although continuing the discussion about Kionga single list.
  • As for Sharks taxonomy and the redundant that you considerer on it, I don't agree with you having the "Tree of life"" as reference for this subject. If you compare both kind of decription you'll find that "Tree of life" is a summary of the major categories of animal taxonomy while in Sharks taxonomy I trie to put all group in a global and complete taxonomic list from Class to Species, with links to usefull internal and external sites for addicional information about each shark species. This is a general taxonomic concept and is used not only for leaving animals but also for fossils.
  • If you considerer this kind of lists usefull on Wikipedia principals, please let me know, because "Tree of Life" and Sharks taxonomy can be linked to complete information from each one.
  • Two last things. I've reformulated all List of Bonsai on stamps ending the single countries list for one single bonsai list.I'm not sure to have done in the correct way but I've leave many "List of bonsai on stamps of ..." orphan and empty of information. If something's wrong please excuse me and tell me how to correct that.Last my excuses for just today have seen your message.Another fault of mine on understanding all Wikipedia way of work.--JPPINTO 23:09, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Page renaming[edit]

Hi. In the future, if you realize you've mis-named a page, you'll save yourself and others a lot of work if you use the "Move" tab, instead of blanking the page at the old name and creating a new article at the new name. Happy Wiki'ing. Niteowlneils 02:46, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip.--JPPINTO 02:58, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Kionga Stamps[edit]

Sorry, I seem to have overlooked your comment on my talk page earlier. If somewhere else is more appropriate for that information feel free to move it there. It looked like the prevailing idea on the VfD page was to merge it to the Stamps of Portugal page, but the only VfD decision that can't be changed by anyone who comes along after is "delete". I personally don't have an opinion on where the content should go, so you and the other people working in that area should discuss it amongst yourselves and then do what you like with it. Shark taxonomy[edit]

Hi JPPINTO,

Are you going to merge the articles in the Shark taxonomy family, now that you've broken the tables out of the parent article?

For example, it might make sense for the table at Shark taxonomy Order Hexanchiformes and the information in Hexanchiformes to be in the same place...unless there's a Wikiproject that is organizing things differently(?)

For guidelines on how to merge articles, see Wikipedia:Merge. Essentially, take the content from one article, add it to the other, and create a redirect at the original title. If you need any help, feel free to drop me line. Cheers, --TenOfAllTrades(talk) 02:48, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

One more thought—you might want to check out the Tree of Life Wikiproject. There are probably quite a few editors there with a great deal of expertise in handling taxonomy-related articles, and might be able to advise you on how best to help your contributions fit in to the Wikipedia scheme. Happy editing, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 02:58, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Okay; I can see where you're going. I'd still encourage communication with the Tree of Life people; they might be able to help you integrate your work with the stuff that they're doing. In the meantime, it would probably be a good idea to provide wikilinks between the two articles—a link somewhere at Shark taxonomy Order Hexanchiformes to Hexanchiformes, and vice versa. If nothing else, it will help people locate all the hard work that you're doing. Cheers, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 03:17, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Request To Expand Article[edit]

Could you please expand the article Acroechinoidea a bit. Just a table without any futher information looks bit strange. Thanks. Pavel Vozenilek 02:20, 19 July 2005 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gzyeah (talkcontribs) [reply]

Hey, what is going on with Acroechinoidea? Is it a draft whose content has been moved elsewhere? Please use {{db|reason for deletion}} to request a quick deletion for a page you made in mistake, but never create blank pages. You can create draft articles more freely in your own userspace, for example in User:JPPINTO/Acroechinoidea and then move them over when finished. Or if page moving is the problem, you can use Wikipedia:Requested moves for requesting complex moves you cannot figure out how to do. You should never move pages by cut-and-paste. Here is the standard blurb about blank pages:

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages or sections with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks.

Taxonomic tables[edit]

You've been writing a number of taxonomic tables along the lines of the ones at Diadematidae. In Wikipedia. we don't in general lay out taxonomic hierarchies in the form of tables like that. Instead we use indented lists with annotations like the ones you can see at List of birds and List of subgroups of the order Coleoptera. We believe that these are easier to read and better convey the hierarchical nature of taxonomies. When a taxonomy is short, it's in general best to merge it into the article on the parent taxon; for example Shark taxonomy Order Squatiniformes is short enough that it should be merged into section 1 of Angel shark. This avoids unnecessary duplication.

It would be nice if you could:

  1. Convert your tables to indented lists.
  2. Write articles to go with the tables. For example Diadematidae ought to start with a description of what kind of organisms are being described in the article.
  3. Use names that follow Wikipedia:Naming conventions. For example, Shark taxonomy Order Carcharhiniformes should be named something like List of species of the order Carcharhiniformes.
  4. Leave extant species unmarked; mark extinct species with "(extinct)" or †.

Let me know if you have difficulty with any of these and I will try to help. Or you can ask for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tree of Life. Gdr 22:17, 25 July 2005 (UTC) P.S. I merged your two tables for Carcharhiniformes into List of species of the order Carcharhiniformes as a demonstration.[reply]

Equinodermata[edit]

What is "Equinodermata"? I thought at first it might be Spanish or Portuguese for Echinodermata, but that's Equinodermo and Equinoderme respectively. Can you say what it is? Gdr 10:46, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No need to delete your articles[edit]

Why have you put speedy deletion tags on your articles? Being in the wrong format isn't a reason for deletion, but rather a reason to tidy up. Gdr 22:41, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Time range of Hexanchiformes species, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
