Untitled[edit]

It is incorrect to say that the Tennessee Republican Party supported another candidate in the 1998 Congressional primary; it is banned from supporting anyone in a contested primary due to its bylaws. It is true that no prominent Republicans supported Looper and that many supported Walt Massey, the eventually primary (but not general election) winner; others supported the other two candidates, but not Looper. Also, it is incorrect to say that the former law about a candidate's name being removed from the ballot in the event of death was "obscure", it may have been poorly-known, but was in a law book given to all election commissioners upon their election. I feel that it is wrong for Looper to be included in the category "Tennessee state senators", for he never was one, only the murderer of one. Someone should write an article about Mrs. Burks for inclusion in that topic. I'm not saying Looper doesn't belong in Wikipedia, sadly he undoubtedly does, just as Sirhan Sirhan, Arthur Bremer, Lee Harvey Oswald and such do, just on a smaller scale. (You wouldn't include Lee Harvey Oswald in the category "Presidents of the United States" even if he had in fact filed to run against JFK, would you?)

I wrote this article, and I do agree with you viz Looper's not needing to be included in the Tennessee State Senators category. As for the other things I will take this under advisement and do a rewrite this weekend if you or somebody else doesn't get to it first. Thanks. Actually, I'm going to go ahead and pull the Category link off of here. I quite agree with all the other changes you've made. Thanks. Thehappysmith

My memory may be failing me, but some of the phrasing in this article seems to be almost verbatim from a news story I saw on the incident when it happened. Mind you, it was something like ten years ago when I saw the story (and it may just be a case of the wording being very similar, not identical), but particularly the description of Sen. Burks and the police investigation...it just feels very similar.Tyrenon (talk) 08:32, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does anybody know if image of Looper made available to the press and public by the Tennessee Department of Corrections at http://www.tn.gov/correction/media/inmatephotos.html would be acceptable for use on Wikipedia? Lost tiree, lost dutch :O (talk) 23:55, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are copyright issues with use of an image from the state. I don't think "fair use" applies because it's not irreplaceable -- it is at least theoretically possible to get a new photo of any living person. --Orlady (talk) 05:21, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not theoretically possible anymore. --67.82.200.194 (talk) 23:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC) (edit: that was me, lost tiree, lost dutch :O, i just forgot to log in --Lost tiree, lost dutch :O (talk) 23:16, 26 June 2013 (UTC) )[reply]

Middle name[edit]

Were the parentheses legally part of his middle name? The presentation varies throughout this article. --Khajidha (talk) 14:39, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
