Excalibur[edit]

Excalibur 10:47, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC) Hi, its nice to be able to join this fascinating project and community. I've always been a fan of the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and and this wiki is about as close as it gets to having that kind of resource at ones fingertips. I've added my photo for fun - click on Excalibur I have added a few pages to Kilsyth and Colzium because this is where I live, and as the webmaster for Welcome to Kilsyth I am especially interested in local history and information. I also have special interests in disability, as I have worked in this field for the last twenty odd years, and plan to keep an eye on those pages.

Cihan[edit]

I am originally from Turkey, but have been living in the US for a long time. I teach engineering, mostly in the areas of telecommunications and signal processing. I am also interested in chess. As a nonexpert, I also read a lot about politics and current events. cihan 07:55, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Chocolate_bar[edit]

I live in an English-speaking country and have extensive experience writing in the English language. My experience includes some knowledge of mark-up languages and plenty of experience in various networked communication environments, including some experience with the psychology of asynchronous network communications. While we often strive to be real in these contexts, I know a lot of the work communicating with a diverse readership is simple show business, and the less people know about the real me, sometimes the better. Using chocolate bar as a user name is a down-and-dirty way to use written words to present as a figure nearly everyone associates with pleasant experiences. If you get some on your fingers, go ahead and lick it off, but please don't smear me on the furniture. ;-) Chocolate bar

Diberri[edit]

Hi everyone! I live in Southern California, USA, recently earned a bachelor's degree in physiology, and am currently applying to medical school. I've been hopelessly addicted to Wikipedia for just a few months now (I stumbled upon Wikipedia through a Google search for BAPTA and long-term potentiation), and I don't plan on rehabilitating any time soon. (In fact, I'm getting rather used to my girlfriend's routine inquiry, "So what did you do on Wikipedia today?")

I regularly contribute to topics in medicine and physiology, and am especially interested in learning and memory. As a long-time Perl programmer, I'm also considering whether to devote some time to a Perl-based MediaWiki-esque project. We'll see where that road leads... --Diberri 00:28, Apr 1, 2004 (UTC)

Sundar[edit]

Hello Wikipedia! I'm Sundar living in Bangalore. I did my Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and doing my internship at Yahoo! as part of my Post graduation in the Indian Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore.

The things I like most about Wikipedia are true democracy, collective rationality and ease of use. I'm looking at it not just from the stand point of getting to know things, but to see how it evolves as the sum of human knowledge. I'm kind of experimenting with it. One grudge I've about Wikipedia is that the ratio of the amount of information on Cities and people to the amount of material on abstract and scientific issues is huge. I came to this conjecture after finding instances of the former class more often in the Random Page section than that of the latter.

BTW, I stumbled upon Wikipedia while searching for Context-free grammar in Google.

Hi everybody,

I am currently a student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. I was born and raised in East Germany but moved here about 5 years ago. I may go back to Europe soon, who knows. I found this page by doing a search on the History of Greece and immediately set it as my home page. I hope that I will be able to contribute in various areas and help growing the site.

Slowking Man[edit]

Hello! I'm a high school student from California. I was linked to Wikipedia from a message board, and was intrigued by its open participation. I plan to focus upon revising and editing. Who knows, maybe I'll write some stuff too. Slowking Man 03:07, Apr 2, 2004 (UTC)

scottryan[edit]

Howdy -- Scott Ryan here. I've been writing content for several of the philosophy entries (particularly Brand Blanshard and related entries) and I thought I might as well create a user account.

I'm forty years old, I've got undergraduate and graduate degrees in math/computer science, I've been working in the electronic database industry for about fifteen years, and I'm about to complete a law degree.

Scottryan 17:11, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

PurpleHeather[edit]

Hello there! I discovered Wikipedia a week ago, and I've been cheerfully hopping since then. I'm a teacher in Manchester and I'm interested in education, drumming (I play djembe and djun-djun among others) and dyspraxia. I am to have a go at writing an article for dyspraxia, but being dyspraxic I might need some help to make it NPOV! PurpleHeather 20:50, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Uncutsaniflush[edit]

Oh my stars and satellites, where do I start?

In the beginning, there was uncutsaniflush? Nah, that would be too obvious. And, I suspect the punters wouldn't be satisfied!

I was born in Poland and live in the U.S. I am interested in music of all kinds but, in my heart of hearts, I reckon I will always have a soft spot for punk. I'm old enough to have seen the Clash live.

How did I find out about Wikipedia? I reckon I must have first heard about it on Slashdot a year or two ago. My wife tells me that I am a Linux geek but compared to the geeks on Slashdot I figure that I am one step above a "newbie"

Why have I started editing here? After months of bitching and moaning that there weren't articles about subjects that I was interested in, it finally dawned on me that I could do something more than just complain.

At any rate, that's the story so far. And I'm sticking with it.

Marxist[edit]

Hi. I'm not really new here, as I have been editing various entries for a month now, but I only recently made an account. On the recommendation of a guy named Chris Roy I decided I should introduce myself, so heres a little about me. I am a 15 year old student with interests in just about everything, but mainly Japan and Warfare.

blankfaze[edit]

bonjour, i'm new to wikipedia. i've used wikipedia before, because it's awesome, but not until today did i decide to start contributing.

btw, i think the whole wiki idea is incredible... to think that a project could be everyone's instead of being owned by someone... i love to community aspect of wiki.

anyways, i'm going to try to add to wikipedia whenever i can, to make it even better.

so far i've written articles on: henry lee (criminologist), ron brown (u.s. sec. of commerce), jimmy mchugh {songwriter},

i've also made additions to several other pages.

so. i'm done then. ! blankfaze

Ex_Ottoyuhr[edit]

The terror of rec.arts.books.tolkien for about two weeks in June 2002, under my original alias of Ottoyuhr, and a regular there for quite some time before and after. Intermittent poster elsewhere in Usenet, and mostly dormant regarding the Internet. I still dream that I'll be recognized by that name someday...

My main areas of interest are anthropology, literature, computers, and Early Modern history, but unfortunately, all of these seem reasonably well covered already. I don't know how much I'll be able to contribute.

--ExOttoyuhr 02:37, Apr 5, 2004 (UTC)

Antandrus[edit]

Hi everyone! My name is David; I just found Wikipedia today and have had quite a bit of fun browsing through things; perhaps I will be able to contribute. I have a masters and doctorate in music composition, and will be happy to write in the fields of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century-classical music theory, history, orchestration, performance practice, and so forth ... I'm sure there is a lot I can help with; let me know if there is anything specific you know about already with which I could assist. I'm also moderately capable in English literature, world history, philosophy, and various aspects of computer science.

I'm happy to help, and quite impressed with what is here already.

Mustafaa[edit]

Hi everyone! I'm mostly on ar:, but always happy to work on en:, especially if it relates to linguistics or North Africa... Mustafaa 00:45, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Connell the Barbarian[edit]

Howdy folks - I live in Santa Cruz, California, and my interests are Anthropology, Archaeology, Etymology, Queer Studies, Mormonism and other American cults, Paganism, choppin low-rider bicycles, and traditional skinhead (the anti-racist variety) culture. Keep on skankin'....Conn

Thomas Veil[edit]

Hi all. Nice that there is a welcoming committee - thanks for the welcome and the starter infos. I found Wikipedia long ago via google - but only recently with the help of an article I realized what the core idea of a Wiki is. I just love the idea and instantly started to do some small contributions.

I am from Germany - so my English is a bit bumpy (but thats no problem here I guess, since there are a lot people brushing up the texts). As I work as artist in game development my contributions will be on the geeky side ;-) - games, TV shows, science, art

BTW: Is it possible to get an auto-notification when someone adds something to my Talk Page? I wont be looking there very often I think.

Thomas 22:41, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

John McLean[edit]

I've been using Wiki for nearly two years now, but recently decided I needed to start contributing. My current interest is Central Asia, so I've started work on a series of pages about Central Asian explorers and the players in the Great Game.

ThreeTrees[edit]

I claim no special knowledge. I don't even know my own password -- for my old user ID, User:RoyV. I am still a beginner. I am still sceptical. I anticipate I will be mainly correcting mispeled wrods.

I don't remember how I heard about Wikipedia, but it was probably through a Google search. I do remember having vaguely heard of Wikis , but it never made an impression on me until Wikipedia.

I keep forgetting to add things... ThreeTrees 05:39, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Maver1ck[edit]

I'm Maver1ck from Sweden. 26 years, interests include astronomy, computers and science in general. In fact I'm strongly in favour of science as the best method to gain knowledge about the universe, and therefor I reject pseudoscience, religion and superstition. When it comes to computers, I favour VB and C as programming languages. Maver1ck 08:46, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Madmagic[edit]

Hi. Glad to be here and thanks to Jrdioko for the kind welcome. I'm taking some time to learn how Wikipedia works, and learning by doing minor edits for spelling and grammar, and by filling in links to existing Wikipedia pages.

My current interest is Canadian Military History. I'd like to see this subject as comprehensively documented, organized and well-linked as the US and British military history pages. Here's to Copyleft! Madmagic 20:29, 2004 Apr 10 (UTC)

Arbiter[edit]

Hey there. I’ve been using Wiki for a few months now and thought it was about time I got contributing. I’m a mathematics student at Churchill, Cambridge and have a miscellany of mundane interests. See you around.

Thorn969[edit]

Hello, I'm Thorn, writing from Tampa, Florida (USA), where I live. I am finishing my final year of High School and will be going to New College of Florida. I'm interested in Science Fiction and Fantasty books, Politics, sometimes math, and mostly trivia in general. I found it after doing a Google search on anarcho-communists, as my friend claimed to be one and I wanted to learn more about the philosophy. Browsing other definitions, I saw some controversies that interested me and decided to join so I could help keep the articles fair and neutral. Later, viewing random pages turned up stuff that interested me that I expanded on, as the articles were rather short.--Thorn 20:57, 11 Apr 2004 (UTC)

drbruce[edit]

Hi, Im drbruce. I was trained as an anthropologist, but teach middle school math and computers instead on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. I just found out about Wikipedia last week and have jumped in by adding a few paragraphs about Sumbawa to the stub that was there. The concept behind Wikipedia is super, and I'm looking forward to being involved with it.

MichaelD[edit]

Hello everyone. I'm a college student from NJ, US. I study religion and sociology in college and on my own time extensively. I love music and have a lot of knowledge about various topics within music. So far I've contributed a few articles on shoegazer bands that were missing, which I plan on expanding in the future.

JoJan[edit]

Hello, I have joined the Wikipedia community very recently. My main interest is the taxonomy of fauna and flora, while giving at the same time their common names. I have already made some contributions and hope to make a lot more. More than thousand pages on this subject are waiting to be put on Wikipedia. Help by other taxonomists would be very welcome, to review the articles before being published. Besides all this, I have numerous other interests like : physics, astronomy, cosmology, computers, website-building and reading a lot (mostly SF).

Mumblemore[edit]

Greetings, I joined up on April 12,same day as I found out there was such a thing as WikiPedia, which I feel is a good way to go until something even more exciting comes up. I'm a bloody magpie when it comes to interests, picking them up if they look shiny and new and then forgetting them in the nest Just now I'm into Talmud,17th century music, classical (BC 200-AD 400 roughly) Latin, but my staple interests are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the art of medicine, operating computers,writing,drawing,contemp.politics. I'm very old by contemporary standards, but feel awkward when confronted with rich and powerful people anyway,(or badly trained policemen). I'm not too healthy, and not too well off,and can imitate very few animals. Mumblemore 18:02, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)~ Mumblemore 18:27, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm from New Jersey. I like science, history, and jewish studies. I had been here for a while thanks to my brother, User:andrewlevine. I poster just with my IP Address then decided that I might as well join. Pages I've started include Jewish holidays and List of Jewish Prayers and Blessings. Daniel, levine

Kolomonggo[edit]

Hi, I am from Indonesia. I am an employee of a private company in my city, Surabaya. I am very interested in Wikipedia for I can share what I know to the world. I love linguistics, demography, geography and social culture. Wikipedia should promote more so that all people in the world can access it. If you want to know me more, please meet me and mail me.

Regards,

PS : Kolomonggo in Javanese means spider (esp black widow one)

Iceager[edit]

I think I'll go by Jongseong, pronounced as if written in German but pronounced by French speakers, with nasalised vowels (roughly as Yong-say-ong), as that was what I was called when I was a little boy in Geneva. I have really varied interests, including languages, music, history, football, and all sorts of random topics. I do most work on the Korean Wikipedia, but have also edited French, Swedish, and Simplified English entries among others.

Lydgate[edit]

Hi, I'm a sophomore at Princeton, interested in philosophy, literature, and finance, but haven't declared a major yet. I'm from Orange County, CA. I am a computer guy, just started putting stuff on Wikipedia, this place is pretty sweet. I've started a couple pages already, one on one of Tolstoy's What Is Art? and a few others. Great to be involved.

xinit[edit]

Been providing minor edits for a while, and starting to see how addictive this bloody thing can be. I'm a big fan of removing POV from articles so far, which is proving difficult on a number of pieces like Hardcore_punk. Amazing how music can be so damned political... well, the music FANS anyhow.

Anyhow, currently living in Vancouver, British Columbia, working in UNIX Systems Administration. Odd. Systems Administration and sysadmin don't exist? That's simply unbelieveable...

Xinit 02:05, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mattk[edit]

I've always been a fan of trivia and general knowledge, so Wikipedia was perfect for me. Already made a page on David Gaunson.

I study at Sydney Grammar School if that's interesting. I forgot how I found this site but my first visit was sometime late last year

Cyber-It[edit]

Hi, I'm a new italian wikipedian, I don't speak English well for the moment, i hope to learn your language soon, so I will be able to help you in this "encyclopedic" and "galactic" enterprise.

Ciao!

Hello!

I'm a year-long reader and lover of Wikipedia. I think Wikipedia is the most amazing idea on the Internet in ages! I LOVE the idea that people can contribute their knowledge, or fill in the gaps in the articles, or even dispute articles. I think the free exchange of ideas is the only thing that can assure the continued survival of the human race, and am completely opposed to the repression of the intellect.

Ok, now that that is out of the way, my interests are: all growing things (esp trees and my garden), geology, HISTORY (currently Nazism, but was heavily into the Dark Ages, Middle Ages, Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Viking Age, early American, etc etc--I love it all), music (fanatical music collector, esp Brit Pop of late), compulsively reading everything, and raising my daughter to be an intellectually free human being in an oppressive environment (Central Florida). I'm also a bit vain.

That's about it, because I'm starting to bore myself (and probably you) with my intro! :)

Hi, I'm Marnie Webb. I work for a nonprofit organization that provides technology assistance to other nonprofits. I've been thinking alot about group knowledge and how nonprofits can harness the wisdom of others. How they can open up their content and invite others to improve it, change it, use it, and, in turn, share it with the community. I've been wanting to engage in Wikipedia because I think it's an excellent example of that type of community knowledge exchange.

I'm interested in other things as well: Comic books, the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants, tennis, books, creative writing, short stories, the creative writing of short stories, dogs, and California.

WachterZ[edit]

Hello! I'm a student in a rural Pennsylvania town. I'm knowledgable in history, both U.S. and world, and specialize in interpretations of history. I find history fascinating because the same set of facts can have so many different interpretations, and these interpretations can and do effect the present and future - on various levels. I learned about Wiki from a friend, and look forard to contributing all I can. Wikipedia already has so many great articles on history. I intend to add to this greatness by fitting in different interpretations of events, and the reasons and facts behind these (in a non-bias point of view, of course), so that a reader will have a greater area of knowledge of the subject from which to derive his or her own conclusions. I'll do my best not to screw up :)

perurudragoon[edit]

Hello I am a student from Pennsylvania and I have been reading Wikipedia for about one year now. I enjoy history (especially German and Russian) and I love to read Science Fiction novels and short stories. Some of my favorite authors include Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, Ben Bova, and Arthur C. Clarke.

I hope that I will be able to add to the history content on Wikipedia and add a lot of information about some science fiction books.

Savant1984[edit]

Hello all, I'm a Philosophy student from the western US. My interests extend to pretty much anything in liberal arts academia, but especially philosophy, religion, and politics. I'm also a geek for English grammar, spelling, etc. -- I proofread for fun. I found out about Wikipedia by various websearches and coming up with Wikipedia as an hit. I think it's a great project. :)

Steve-o[edit]

Hi, I have been using Wikipedia for a number of years now. I've found it particularly useful for overviews of controversial topics... the NPOV policy, although hard to follow and prone to disputes, really does work for the majority of articles. I have a diverse set of interests, so I thought I'd try to contribute here and there... Steve-o 17:27, 17 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Canon[edit]

I'm the author of the book Wordplay, A Curious Dictionayr of Language Oddities (Sterling, 1999, ISBN 0806917970), the editor of the archive of the Usenet newsgroup rec.puzzles, and a member of the National Puzzlers' League. My interest area is, duh!, puzzles. I think Wiki provides a means for sharing information in a more strucutred format than newsgroups, blogs, RSS, etc. I plan to convert a lot of my old material over to Wikipedia. Take a look at my first attempt, which discusses the most popular word puzzle: the three words ending in gry.

Likethewatch[edit]

Hi! I'm Likethewatch, a bit of a joke based on my last name, which sounds (but isn't spelled) like Casio, the electronics company that makes, among other things, watches. I have a Bachelor's degree in English, and work as an admin for a non-profit health care organization's IS department. I'm an amateur academic/activist in the health of transsexual people, and in that role was an editor of Trans-Health. I espouse beliefs in whole foods, sustainable living, and anarchy. My principal hobbies are cooking and queer theory, although I mainly read historical, philosophical, and psychological topics on Wikipedia. I have lived in rural Florida and currently live in Brooklyn, New York.

ViolentGreen[edit]

Hi, I just registered a few days ago. My areas of knowledge are probably more obscure than usual: demonolgy and botany. I can't think of anything else to say so I will end right now

I am a couple of months old in Wikipedia chronology. More extensive information is available at my User Page. I have one qualm with Wikipedia... the headings and titles of sections... I prefer capitalizing all significant words, like " The Rise and Fall of Empires" rather than "The rise and fall of empires". Gives it a little bit more verve in the former. The latter is lackluster, apathetic, giving one the air of deflation into apathy, an anticlimax only it's to be found at the beginning of the Section! Meh. --LordSuryaofShropshire 17:18, Apr 20, 2004 (UTC)

apotheon[edit]

I suppose I had better introduce myself. I'm still basically a new user, though I've ignored this bit of getting into the swing of things for about a week now.

I'm kind of a jack of many trades, master of not bloody much. I've a wide range of interests and have picked up a lot of trivialities along the way that might become useful in an endeavor like Wikipedia. As such, I suppose I'm eager to help out. Since people don't come to Wikipedia to hear life histories of the article authors, I'll get to the encyclopedic data now:

I got started with a couple of dinosaur articles, and went on to start editing articles relating to Japanese history and martial culture -- a subject of great interest to me. I imagine I'll get my fingers into more pies as time goes on.

sempf[edit]

Hello World. I am an author and programmer specializing in Microsoft products. I've been making small to medium edits to Wikipedia articles for a while now, as weird trivia is something of a hobby of mine. Don't so much have a speciality, but I love this stuff.

Glenn6502[edit]

Hi all, Been reading Wikipedia for a while and made a couple of trivial edits anonymously. I've seen several areas I think I could contribute to, so now have a user name. I am sure to be an infrequent contributor. Glenn6502 01:57, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Mihoshi[edit]

Hello everybody!

I really like the site, but I never really saw a reason to contribute to it until I discovered that there was no entry for the Boomer bible, which was a shame. So I fixed it!

Anyway, I'm a huge dork, a fan of board games, like Cheapass Games (which also needs an entry, apparently,) anime, video games (particularly Halo: Combat Evolved), history, and Role-playing games. Right now GURPS is my RPG of choice, and I'm pretty jazzed about 4th edition.

Mihoshi 21:17, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Jel[edit]

Hi all :)

Typical linux geek. I've a wide variety of interests, and some detailed knowledge on a few things, but nothing special. Hopefully I'll find enough overlap between what I know and what's missing to be of use, though -- I really like Wikipedia :D

-- Jel 23:59, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I found Wiki a few days ago when I did a search on Google to figure out whether "Jack Ass" is a donkey and mule, and has been hooked since.

I'm a software engineer/financial advisor who lives in the forever cloudy part of San Francisco, California. I was born in China, then moved to the US when I was thirteen. My interests outside of work lies in history, geography, and food. My mother-in-law sings Chinese opera, so I'm quite familiar with the topic as well. I've also an avid collector of random useless trivia.

So far my contribution have been with minor formatting edits, as well as adding links between Chinese articles and English ones. Once I can my computer to use Chinese correctly, I'll start on translating some of the English articles to Chinese and vice versa. Trying to trick Babelfish into generating the correct Chinese character is simply too hard. Requests to translate specific articles are welcome.

I also seems to have different logins for the English and Chinese versions of the Wikipedia. Both "Vina" and "Vinama3171" are me. I'll put up a profile page soon.

I gradually became aware of Wikipedia as it showed up in more and more of my Google searches, and I've begun to rely on it as one of my primary reference tools. Tonight I finally edited my first page, and decided it was time to create an account and start learning more about how the Wikipedia project and community work. My interests include the space program, games (especially Dungeons & Dragons, which I've been playing since 1978), and some other similarly geeky areas. But I'm also a professional technical writer with nearly two decades of experience, so I suspect I will be more useful as an editor and proofreader. We'll see.

ThC[edit]

Hello all. I live in Groningen, which is a big city in the Northern part of the Netherlands. I found out about Wikipedia by searching for essay information on google. My field of expertise is mostly military history, especially WWII history. I also have a lot of knowledge about explosives and all ranges of firearms which comes from practical experience in this field. I will do my best to contribute to these subjects as well as I can. Furthermore I would like to say that Wikipedia is incredible, and to everyone who contributes here I'll say: Keep up the amazing work. Ipsa Scienta Potestas Est = Knowledge itself is power

BobbyG[edit]

I was Google searching the other day for additional online resources for my students -- looking up "statistical fallacies" -- and came across Wikipedia.

Very interesting concept. I see a ton of good work here.

I am a risk management officer with a credit card bank, and I teach "Critical Thinking" part-time at UNLV. See www.bgladd.com/EPS701.

Swervy_a[edit]

I'm in Houston at Rice University. I'm here because some jerks put up a page about me, Andy Johnson, and I don't like it. But I guess it's not all bad if it got another person to join the community, eh? Swervy_a 04:53, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • Hi, Swervy_a (or Andy?), welcome to Wikipedia! As you have found, YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR USERPAGE - but you can also change the "bogus" one. I look forward to seeing contributions from you on the subject of juggling! Robin Patterson 05:17, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Magus[edit]

I recently joined after stumbling my way around the site, and coming across an entry for my school, Willamette University. I also found an alumnus that posts here quite frequently, Decumanus. Figured I'd see if I could add anything helpful :)

Melonhead[edit]

Hi to all Wikipedians out there. I've been browsing through the site for many months now and finally decided to join. I'm from Indiana, and my interests are very, very scattered.... ;)

Ufux[edit]

Hi everybody! I discovered this amazing encyclopedia while surfing on the web for a report. I love archives and watching a article evolve into something The World Book should be afraid of. This website shows that things don't always have to be proprietary to be sucessful (and useful). I enjoy a variety of subjects including (but not limited to): Video Games, Politics, Computers, History (in general), Software, etc. etc. and so forth. I also love all works by J.R.R Tolkien and the LOTR movies. I wouldn't mind some advice on what are good articles that need some help. I've started some articles, but they're all stubs. Check out my user page for what I've done. Anything that I've made could use some extra information. Thank you.

Interests mostly musical. So far edited Frank Zappa, and created Ahead Of Their Time, The Black Rider, Julian Cope. Considering some major revision and extension of William S. Burroughs. Anyone wanna collaborate on this?

Houshuang[edit]

I've looked at Wikipedia in the past, but never really thought much about it - it was really Konqueror, with it's feature of being able to type in wp:oslo and get the Wikipedia article for Oslo that made me start consulting it - for a lot of the things I typed in, I actually got really good informative articles. Can't promise that I will actively lurk around and look for stuff to do, but I seem to be consulting it fairly regularly, and if I see stuff that is wrong/could be better, I'll try to fix it. Already did a substantial revamp of Hamar (my old town, plus some other things around.

I am Norwegian, 22 yrs, living in Hangzhou, China.

Taxman[edit]

I've been reading everything I could get my hands on since the age of 5, so I was very excited to learn about the wikipedia project. I like the idea of trying to dump everything encyclopedic that I know into wikipedia, and contributing whatever else I can to make the end result better. I've already contributed a fair bit to a few articles before learning about this new user page.

I have a degrees in economics and the mathematics of finance, but here are some other areas I might be able to contribute usefully in:

finance, securities, derivatives, planning, tax law, etc; economics; outdoors, camping, survival, hiking, knots, scouting etc; woodworking; sales and management; business; risk management and insurance; FreeBSD, Linux other free unices and open source software; computer security concepts; cooking; some travel and a bit of Spanish, though certainly others know much more than I.

I heard about wikipedia from Slashdot

Hey gang![edit]

Kay Ellen here from Alabama. I really like logging on to the Wiki every morning to see what has changed overnight. I discovered that not many of the lizard articles were written (and especially the Rhacodactylus articles (gasp)! I have a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Management and a Master's degree in Management and Finance. I breed many species of geckos and chameleons as a hobby. I am a motorcycle racing junkie. (Mat Mladin and Aaron Yates are my favorites) I am also working my way up the belt levels in Taekwondo and Hapkido. I love hiking and camping and swimming and...

As a recent widow at 28 I am trying to fill my spare time with useful projects and am happy to say editing the rhacodactylus gecko articles was fun and made me feel pretty good! Check them out if you get a chance!

Wurzeller[edit]

Hi all, discovered this enterprise yesterday. I'm studying for a PhD in physics at University College London. My name was chosen for the West Country (of England) links. For an explanation of the name refer to The Wurzels. I imagine any contributions I make will have some connection with my home territory. My first article was on Babycham, perhaps odd but it was red-linked. I accidentally found Wikipedia searching for something or other else.

kegill[edit]

I discovered Wikipedia fall 2003 while teaching a class in interactive media at the University of Washington Department of Communication. I've poked around a little since then, but yesterday I posted in a fit of pique after the "empty" wiki page came up #3 in a google search for Britain J. Williams. If you care about e-voting you might understand my frustration when you read his bio. :)

I then wrote a second page on the Election Assistance Commission and understood how quickly an information junkie could get hooked here!

I have degrees in journalism (UGA) and agricultural economics (Virginia Tech) and have had several careers. I've been teaching full-time since 2001 when I was laid off in at the top of the dot-gone period. I live in suburban Seattle and ride a Ducati motorcycle. (I'm going to go back to the clean up page now and see if the Ducati Monster page is still there from yesterday.) I have many varied interests; you can read about some of them on my blog.

ACow[edit]

Damien Melksham here from Australia. I've used wikipedia for a while now but only recently found out you could write stuff for it when i did a search to remember how to spell a buddhist term and came back with the blank page. My principle areas of knowlege would be world religions, economics, and philosophy. I'm one of those student creatures that hangs around the Australian National University, and am doing my bachelors in Economics and Religion Studies.

Kaylor[edit]

Greetings fellow Earthlings! My name is Trina Cairns-Mell, and I am an Australian who lives in Germany (like you do) because my partner is German. (-:= I stumbled across Wikipedia for the first time ever about woo.. three hours or so ago while doing a search for the word "indictee" on dictionary.com. I have been hopelessly glued to the screen ever since, and my sole complaint is that it is impossible to choose which link to click on first! I have a law and a linguistics degree from Melbourne University, and am currently working as a mixture of full-time ("Angestellte") employee who translates German documents into English and who teaches lawyers English, and a freelance worker who does the same thing for other companies in Germany. My interests are role-playing games, singing tenor in my choir back in Australia (too many problems finding a good choir here who would let a female tenor sing with them) at Intervarsity Choral Festivals, language and its development and use, sewing, and thinking just too darn much in general. One of those annoying children who always asks "but HOW/WHY ...." and only needs the Spock ears to make the resemblance complete. I am a born proof-reader ('snot my fault - I was made that way! (-:= ) and would be delighted to be allowed to look for/correct typos and the like. As to further opportunities to add to the community/Wiki here, I have to become rather better acquainted first to discover what I might be able to contribute. Trina TAV 10:06, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)
