This is a home page for the town http://www.bartonuponhumber.org.uk

Where did the information about Carr and Huntley come from? I believe they have connections to Barton, but their flat was in Barrow on Humber, 3 miles away. 212.240.35.82 14:37, 23 March 2007 (UTC)BC[reply]

Hailstorm monument[edit]

Is this the Barton, Lincolnshire that has a monument to a hailstorm in 1883? The monument is made of bricks which were being made during the storm and still carry indentations from the hailstones. Totnesmartin (talk) 16:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I lived there for 18 years, and never heard of this. Humbersi (talk) 21:59, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to J.D.C. Webb, 'Severe hailstorms in Britain and Ireland, a climatological survey and hazard assessment' in Atmospheric Research 93 (2009), p.602, yes it was...

Great destruction accompanied this H6 hailstorm across North Lincolnshire. It is commemorated by a monument in Barton-on-Humber which was made out of bricks dented by the hailstones while being sand dried; 15 tons of glass were reported broken in the town. The swath was SSE–NNW from Caistor to Barton.(Meteorological Record, R Met Soc 1883). This storm was the culmination of a very thundery week; e.g. severe hailstorms also featured in the Midlands on 29th June.

Cannot think where the monument or bricks are now though ! --Semutfu (talk) 18:02, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Mason[edit]

This name was added to the 'notable people' section: "David Paul Mason MBE born 1974 Royal Marines 1992 till 2020". I can find no secondary references linking Mason to Barton, but a partial biography is here. Should additional sources linking him to Barton turn up, he can be added in.Zakhx150 (talk) 13:16, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
