No offence on the change, but most of the texts I've seen use auto da fe. Danny

But da is not Spanish, it's Portuguese. Serious historians of the Spanish iNquisition, like Henry Kamen, use de. Jacquerie27

I don't mind the "de", but you are just quoting one historian. I will do a little bit of research tomorrow and see what appears more frequently in several texts I have at work. Danny

It isn't a question of how many texts use one or the other but of historical accuracy: when you refer to the Spanish Inquisition, you should use Spanish, not Portuguese, and if you're referring to the Inquisition in general Spanish, which is far more widely spoken, remains better. So long as the other form is available on the site and is explained in the definition of auto de fe I think it's fine as it stands.Jacquerie27
