光源氏（ひかるげんじ）は紫式部の物語『源氏物語』の主人公。架空の人物であるが、嵯峨源氏の河原左大臣源融をモデルにしたと考えられている。『源氏物語』中第一帖「桐壺」から第四十帖「幻」まで登場する。

Hikaru Genji (Hikaru effect "ZI") is the hero of Murasaki Shikibu's tale "Tale of Genji". He is a fictitious person but it is thought the author was inspired by some historical figures including Minamoto no Toru who was a grandson of the Emperor Saga of Japan hence on of Saga Genji clan. Hikaru Genji appears from the first volumn "Kiritsubo" to the 40th volumn "Illusion".

He was the 2nd prince of emperor Kiritsubo. His mother was Kiritsubo no Koi, a lower ranked consort of Emperor. He was blessed with the genius beautifully without the kind from around the infancy and a nickname is made "Prince Hikaru". His mother, Kiritsubo passed away when he was at the 3 years old. His father Emperor Kiritsubo considered to appoint Hikaru no kimi the Crown Prince. He was however worried his second son had no support from his maternal line. And it had been predicted by a Korean if Hikaru would ascend to the throne, the country would be disordered. This prediction discouraged him too. Finally he declined Hikaru's rank to civilian, giving the clan name Minamoto (Genji).

亡母に似ているとして父帝の後宮に入った藤壺女御を慕い、遂に一線を越えて子(後の冷泉帝)をなすが、密通の事実は世に知られることはなかった。後にこの皇子が即位した後、臣下として最高位の准太上天皇とされた。このときの住居を取って 六条院と呼ばれる。

Genji adored his stepmother Lady Fujitsubo who was the favorite consort of the Emperor Kiritsubo. Since she was so resemble to the died Lady Kiritsubo that the Emperor Kiritsubo had her enter his seraglio. As a result of their forbideen love, she bore a boy of Genji, (later the Emperor Reizei) but no one known the truth of his birth, and the child was grown as a prince of the Emperor Kiritsubo. After the prince ascended to the throne, he knew his secret of birth by chance, and desired to abdicate in favor of his real father, Genji. It was however impossible and as the second best, the Emperor Reizei gave Genji the same rank of the abdicated emperor. After arosen to this noblest rank, Genji was called Rokujo-in taken from his mansion.

After secluded and sending priest life to Saga after the death on the purple, it died.
