Norse mythology naming convention up for a vote[edit]

A new naming convention for Norse mythology articles is now up for a vote. Several voters are objecting on the grounds that they don't want non-English characters in article titles. Your opinion would be valued. I'm contacting you because you've commented on related votes in the past. - Haukur Þorgeirsson 12:30, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Radio.Blog.Club[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Radio.Blog.Club, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Radio.Blog.Club is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Radio.Blog.Club, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Icelanders' names[edit]

I infer from this edit of yours to an article largely (mis-) written by me that, even in formal contexts, Icelanders are referred to by their personal and not their family names. I hadn't known that. (I've long wanted to go to Iceland but I've never been there.) If this is true, it's not so very surprising: It's certainly true for Vietnamese and probably other peoples too. But I'm having to guess this. Can you please either point to somewhere in en:WP where this is written, or write something yourself (perhaps here)? Without such an explanation, the casual reader may think that this article refers to "Ragnar" in the same adoring way that younger editors like to refer to "Elvis", "Britney", etc.

Incidentally, I'd be delighted to learn more about Ax--, um, about Ragnar; but of course I can't read web sources in Icelandic, and can't even locate Icelandic printed sources.

(And doesn't the man merit an article in is:WP? Not that I'd be able to read it.)

I'll keep your talk page on my watchlist; please reply either here or on the article's talk page. Thanks. -- Hoary 00:50, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know of any place where it is actually stated in official policy or guidelines. I found the same thing as you did on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Iceland, and I have seen similar discussions on other discussion pages before, but never official policy. There is a good explanation of this on the page Icelandic name, and that could be used to write such a policy, but I do not feel I am the right person to do so, even though I can never resist the urge to edit such errors when I see them, because I'm not really an editor here on the english Wikipedia. I use this account almost only for minor edits, mainly interwiki links, redirects and spelling errors. I think I've started one or two articles at most here. So a jump from that to writing policy is a bit... big. But I'm quite willing to comment or help if you or somebody else were to write it.
On the other point, though, he definately does merit an article on is:WP. He's a great photographer and rather well known in Iceland. We're just so small that there are many articles we should have that we don't have yet.
And last but not least, thank you for your interest! It's nice to get a response like that to a small edit like that! =D --Sterio 10:10, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then let's do this together. I'm a bit too sleepy right now to want to embark on this, but I hope to do so tomorrow. Keep all the relevant pages on your watchlist! -- Hoary 14:03, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done! -- Hoary 05:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the late reply, but I like what you've done. Can't think of any changes really. It's short and to the point. I'm going to point it out in the is:wp equivilent of the village pump. --Sterio 13:54, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
