Note that the radio obituaries are saying he was 63, which would place his birth in 1941-2, not 1943 as we have it. The only non-Wikipedia online source I've found says 1943. Anyone able to confirm what his actual date of birth was? -- Arwel 12:10, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I've had a quick browse around on google, both [1] and [2] seem to indicate that the 1943 date is accurate, I saw no other dates or years given. I guess we'll just have to wait for the newspapers to print an obituary to confirm or deny this. This BBC article lists his age as 63 almost a year ago [3], yet "Tommy Vance"+1941 turns up nothing relevent. Rje 13:40, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

Try this, [4] also confirms 1943 - great clips on there too, think I'll add it to the page. RIP Tommy :( --PopUpPirate 21:34, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

I knew Rick Hope-Weston in the early 1960s before he started his DJ career in the USA. He was born in July 1940 at a place called Eynsham Hall, at the time a stately home but now a hotel. For persons interested Rick's birth, marriage (two of them in the UK and an earlier one in the US) and his death, information can be obtained and viewed on Ancestry web sites. (.com; .co.uk; .ca) A search in the US Records on Ancestry will also reveal that he was married, briefly, and divorced there prior to returning to the UK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riptide99 (talkcontribs) 20:52, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Join and was discharged from the Merchant Navy in the same year?[edit]

The article states "...Vance left home at 16 to join the Merchant Navy (discharged 1 October 1956)...". If Tommy Vance was born in 1940, he would have been 16 in 1956, the year joined the Merchant Navy, but he article also states "...(discharged 1 October 1956)...", did he join and was discharged from the Merchant Navy in the same year?
