Photos, vandalism etc[edit]

FYI: Adam submitted the following request via Wikipedia:Requests for page protection:

Peter Beattie is being constantly vandalised while it is visible on the Main Page]]. Please protect it until its time on the main page ends. Adam 06:35, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

It is now protected. -- Viajero 09:34, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

This doesn't look good, since it's linked from Main Page, when we give the idea that "any page can be edited"... Dysprosia 09:41, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Thankyou for the explanation. I unprotected this because there seemed no good reason for it to be protected and (at that time) there was no mention of it on the list of protected pages. Having seen (as a result of the edit conflict I ran into on that page) that you were only part-way through the process, Vajero, I have, as a courtesy, reverted myself and re-protected the page, at least for the time being.

Looking at the page history, it has had fewer vandalism attacks in the last 2 or 3 days than the George Bush pages get in 2 or 3 hours. Protected pages are an evil to be minimised so far as possible and I can see no good case for protecting it, but I thought I'd let this comment sit here for an hour or two before I unprotect it again in case someone has a a more compelling reason to urge protection for it. Tannin 09:43, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

OK, no takers with a case for protection, so I'll unprotect it now. Tannin 11:45, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)

The page was vandalized again, so I reprotected it. Perhaps 24 hours will be enough. -- Viajero 14:27, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)
This needs to be unlocked. There are a number of minor errors that need correcting. (ps - if you're referring to the 'jj' at the end as vandalism, that was a mistake by me - sorry about that) - WikiUser
List them here. I'd be happy to take care of it for you! -- Viajero 14:31, 13 Feb 2004 (UTC)
There were a couple of others which have compeltely slipped my mind now, but for starters ... 1) It was not two MPs that fell under the electoral fraud scandal - it was at least three (Kaiser, Elder and Musgrove) as well as quite a few party activists (including David Barbagallo, who had been a very senior adviser to Wayne Goss). 2) 'Loss of only three' could more properly be said as 'net loss of only three' - Beattie lost four, but gained one. 3) Premier should be capitalised in the opening line.

NPOV[edit]

Some of the recent edits (particularly by User:124.254.69.19) are unreferenced and biassed in tone. These need to be tidied up or removed pronto. Waggers 18:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No bias intention intended. They were "unreferenced" which I apologise about. All information had been sourced via the local and national media. I had noted a personal view, which after reading the page requirements, I immediately deleted such. I apolgise for my errors.
I have removed the content as unencyclopaedic and unreferenced, although I agree that it was also written in a very non-neutral way. I have removed the tag as I presume it was placed there in response to the edits by 124.254.69.19, but haven't had a good look through the article, so if your NPOV tag referred to other things in the article please feel free to re-add it. known and suspected lies/scandals section.[edit]

how about a section detailing some of pete's lies, like those regarding the water grid, making it legal to lie in parliament, etc?

Can we have someone edit this page other than an employee of the Premiers Department 130 strong press office.[edit]

I have twice posted links to media articles in the external links section relating to Mr Beatties intention to retire only to have had it erased. I will be emailing Admin asking this page be looked at closely. Too many good things about this self confessed "media tart" and not enough ballance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.49.232.165 (talkcontribs)

Hi anon editor, thanks for the compliment, but I am not an employee of Peter Beattie (if you check out my user space you will find I don't even live in Brisbane). As blatant attacks on the subject person your additions did not comply with wikipedia's neutrality policy, please also check out wikipedia's policies on Biographies of living persons and External links. Most importantly your edits did not contribute anything constructive to the article, if you want to add information about the announcement of his possible retirement, than add it as prose to the text, don't just insert an external link to a story about it.
As for emailing admins, I think you will find that a fair few admins would have this page on their watchlist already, but please feel free to contact wikipedians about your concerns, I would have no probs being corrected if my reverts have been in error, at the very least I should have left a note on your talk page letting you know why your edits did not comply with wikipedia policy (as I understand them) and I apologise for that omission on my part. Hi WikiTownsvillian, With so much negative media about Peter Beattie in cyberspace one can only wonder why this page mainly features the little good Beattie has done. Given the heavily publicised water crisis we have in queensland due to his negligence and the continual deaths within his public health system due to his negligence and now the terrorist link to one of his public servants within his public health system, and the announcement that he is stepping down as Premier in Queensland, one will certainly come to the conclusion that those who edit this page are politicaly bias. Maybe editors should visit http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/ to name but one source.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.49.232.165 (talkcontribs)

Hi again, I'm not talking politics with you, just make sure that your contributions to wikipedia comply with wikipedia policy as previously indicated, whether they are positive or negative edits, political or agricultural articles, sourced from journalism or local Murdoch press (joke)... just chill out and read the policies.
This article is about an individual person and Premier, not the entire Government of Queensland, you might also note that the Politics of Queensland article could be considered to be bias the other way by only covering negative information about Queensland politics of the last ten years, both articles could be improved and I invite you to join us in working constructively towards that goal. Picture[edit]

Surely there's a better picture to be used than a blurry, over-cropped shot in front of a brick wall. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.242.208 (talkcontribs)

If you have one, please upload it! We have a similar problem with all the politicians photos in that it has to have the copyright fully released so the only sure way to get a good picture is for someone to upload a photo that they have taken themselves. Recent updates[edit]

Sorry if I've made too many edits to the page, I'm a newb and just discovered the Preview button as well as the Minor Edit option. The updates I've been making are mostly adding citations and internal links. Glennd83 16:01, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Failings as well as achievements need to be explored[edit]

Successes (government-wise, not politically)[edit]

  • Encouragement of research & innovation
  • Securing Virgin Blue to base its operations in Brisbane
  • Environmental record
  • Decrease in crime? (need to check)

Failures[edit]

  • Child safety crisis - dealt with in 2004 election section, but needs more citation
  • Health crisis - good depth already
  • Energy crisis - predictions
  • Water crisis - criticism as well as outline of his steps to address the issue (e.g. water grid, proposed desalination)
  • Palm Island death in custody crisis - his subsequent intrusion into the legal process caused unrest among policemen, who blamed his Government's inadequate police funding
  • Criticism for failure to adequately invest in infrastructure (refs from economic analyst/business group) - e.g. port bottlenecks

These are some ideas to expand the article further. If I have time I will start adding this info in with appropriate citations. Brisvegas 09:19, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Motion preventing Borbidge calling an early election[edit]

His first act as Opposition leader was to move a motion in Parliament preventing the new Coalition government under Rob Borbidge from calling an early election. Labor feared that an early election could give the Coalition an outright majority. The motion carried.

Can someone explain this to me? How can the Parliament prevent the Premier from advising the Governor to call an election at any time of his choosing, unless the State Constitution forbids it, which doesn't seem to be the case in Queensland. What effect did that motion have, in real terms? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:53, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Needs more sources[edit]

Quite subjective; some sections need more sources and objective information TVil93 (talk) 06:54, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
