Harrison family[edit]

I think that within the Category:Harrison family, everyone should be sorted by their first name, and not by the default order. That's why I had [[Category:Harrison family|Benjamin Harrison]] left in that article. It overrides {{DEFAULTSORT:Harrison, Benjamin}} in that case. What do you think? Neier 23:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I disagree. The convention is to sort by surname, even when the list elements are presented as "given-name surname". See Wikipedia:Categorization#Category_sorting, particularly the example of Category:Presidents of the United States.

I know that, in the case of a family category, this may seem to overload one particular index (H, in this case), but to sort by given name just confuses things, with some name categories sorted by surname, others by given name. -dav4is 10:37, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I put them all back under the H, including a few which were under W before I started. Neier 14:10, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I liked that one approach of citing answers.com (a wikipedia mirror site). In Geometry class, we used to call that "using the theorem to prove the theorem." If it's really true, it ought to be out there somewhere. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 13:57, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parting stone[edit]

Just a query, as you make progress with Parting stone, as to whether this might not be a type of Boundary marker (which includes Boundary stones) and might be worth including there rather than as a separate article ?  Velela  Velela Talk   15:50, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Velela]. I considered that, but decided against it because there is no boundary involved with a Parting stone. In each of its senses, a Parting stone marks only a point in space -- and in time in the case of a memorial parting stone. -dav4is (talk) 17:38, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Lists of people with specific surnames[edit]

Hello Dav4is,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Lists of people with specific surnames for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks,

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

(This even applies to infoboxes.)

Thanks, and my best wishes.
