Categories for deletion discussion[edit]

The following was the discussion for this category which was formerly named Category:Aeronautic.

What is an Aeronautic? I suspect a good category for this exists somewhere else already. --ssd 06:35, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The noun form is "aeronautics" (i.e., balloons and dirigibles), which would be preferable, and there are quite a few articles and even a subcategory or two which could be put in that (which should itself be a subcategory of "aviation"). So, rename Grutness|hello? 22:46, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
  • Maybe Category:Aviation is what it should be. That is the closest thing I could find. —Mike 08:29, Feb 6, 2005 (UTC)
The article that's in there at the moment relates to aeronautics, which is a very distinct subgroup of aviation. As I said, there are also other articles which could easily populate a Category: Aeronautics. Moving it to aviation would be a bit like moving articles on bicycles into a general road vehicles category because the current category is misnamed as "Bike". Grutness|hello?
Is Category:Avionics any better? I moved Lee waves there. --ssd 05:12, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Not really. Lee waves are a weather pattern used by glider and balloon pilots. Aeronautics is ballooning. Avionics is aircraft onboard control instruments. Lee waves definitely relates to aeronautics, but has nothing to do with avionics. Hmm. A bit of affirmative action may be called for here... stay tuned. Grutness|hello? 05:59, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
There is now a Category:Aeronautics, with a smattering of articles and subcategories, which is a subcategory of Category:Aviation. I'm sure there are plenty of other articles that will fit in there, too. Grutness|hello? 06:15, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
