Hazards[edit]

how can fumaroles be hazardous? (18:25, 11 May 2005 24.176.140.88)

See their description, particularly what they emit. Consider possible hazards. I'm not giving a direct response right now to avoid doing someone's homework for them. (SEWilco 03:48, 12 May 2005 (UTC))[reply]

The previous is a catty response. Especially for an article "Fumaroles" that is so badly written. Wikipedia, like all dictionaries/encyclopedias, is a starting point for reading; the entry should suggest a direction for thought and further reading. Let's not think of Wikipedia as just a crib for the high school term paper.

Simply put to answer the question: those gases are poisonous and the heat would scald to death.StevenTorrey (talk) 16:48, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mammoth Mountain[edit]

Question: Regarding the fumarole written here as opening up in 2009, does this refer to the fumarole that has existed near Chair 3 since before people were around? (The fumarole the ski patrollers had an accident with in 2006) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.248.3.2 (talk) 22:41, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Biota in fumaroles[edit]

No mention of Thermophiles in this article ? Anyone know whether there are any specific to fumaroles or are they all similar/identical across all types of hydrothermal vent? EdwardLane (talk) 23:47, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The oceanic Fumarole may very well have been the source of energy and life on planet earth those billions of years ago. This article needs to be seriously revised to discuss in greater detail the Oceanic Fumarole as a source of life on Planet Earth. There also ought to be a link to Hydrothermal Vent which is a more thorough article discussing "Biota in Fumaroles".StevenTorrey (talk) 16:48, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steam vent[edit]

Is this the same thing, synonymous, with a steam vent? Candleabracadabra (talk) 05:18, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fumarola[edit]

On 3 June 2023, User:31.217.18.212 changed the first few words of this article from "A fumarole (or fumerole) is a vent ..." to "A fumarole is a vent ..." at 16:43 with an edit summary of "fixed misspelling", then at 16:44 to "A fumarole (or fumarola) is a vent ..." with edit summary of "fumarole is plural in italian". At 20:18, I reverted this user's edits. My edit summary was "reverted edit by 31.217.18.212 - "fumerole" is an alternative English spelling - this is English Wikipedia". Then at 21:33, user 31.217.18.212 changed the text to "A fumarole (also fumarola or fumerole) is a vent ..." with no edit summary.

I have found no evidence (e.g. a reliable source reference) for the unsourced claim that "fumarola" is a valid English word that has the same meaning as "fumarole" or "fumerole".

The following English dictionaries do NOT include "fumarola":

The onus is on the editor who adds text to a Wikipedia article to provide a reliable source. See WP:PROVEIT.

On 4 June at 17:43, I removed the unsourced claim that "fumarola" is an alternative English spelling or synonym of "fumarole" and I added a source reference citation for "fumerole" being a valid English alternative for "fumarole", with an edit summary of "removed unsourced dubious claim that "fumarola" is a valid English alternative spelling or synonym of "fumarole". To avoid an edit war please discuss at Talk:Fumarole#Fumarola instead of restoring "fumarola"", in an attempt to avoid edit warring.
