Wapiti[edit]

Are they still found in Siberia? I found lots of sites saying things like elk are common food of Siberian tigers but do they mean elk or moose? Are there separate sub-species in Russia? Rmhermen 23:16, Oct 29, 2003 (UTC)

It might be interesting to note that this species has been nominated as among 100 of the "World's Worst" invaders at issg.org Suppafly 19:53, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

WapitiWapiti (disambiguation) — I think the elk is the primary topic, so this title should redirect there. Srnec (talk) 01:19, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • In that case we would need a hatlink in page Elk redirecting to Wapiti (disambiguation). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:16, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • It could easily be added to the end of the existing hatnote. Srnec (talk) 04:48, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support; none of the other items on the disambiguation page are called just "Wapiti". Powers T 11:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. No evidence that this is the primary topic. How many of the other uses are commonly known as Wapiti? How common is it to refer to Elk as Wapiti? I don't ever recall see any road signs saying Wapiti crossing but there are many that say Elk crossing. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:15, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Your personal experience with road signs is your argument? I'd suggest you do a Google or GoogleBooks search. In North America, when you hear "wapiti", you should think "elk" or else say, "What's that?" There's my counter argument. Srnec (talk) 17:44, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support turning 'Wapati' into a redirect towards 'Elk'. Flamarande (talk) 17:53, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
